Wife is meeting an old college buddy there in a week or so.   Anybody know of a cheap/decent hotel in the Freemont area ?   Or, anyone that does vaction rentals or similar ?

Check out VRBO. I remember seeing a house on the water in Magnolia area for %150/night. Super cool. Also there are boats you can rent by the night as well not too far from Fremont. Cheap is another story. Good luck with that.

Cheap in Seattle is the green tortise.  I think they have private rooms now, and did last time I was there....they were moving around the corner 9 years ago.

Not four star but very affordable and the location is unbeatable. You could not only throw  a rock and hit the  Pike Place Market, you could hit the guy in waders that sells fish with a moderately good arm.
