750F engine parts
« on: November 11, 2012, 05:36:53 PM »
Tearing into a 78F engine thats currently stuck.  Was wondering if the cam or valve springs would be worth putting into one of my K engines or my 76F or if using the valve springs was even an option?  Looking to to a mild build up of one of my 750 engines and wondered what would be the best starting point, i have several mid 70s K engines, an 76F and the black 78F.  Mostly gonna be heavy duty cam chain and cylinder studs, high compression pistons, a cam and valve springs, and maybe mild port work.  If i use the black engine (which i am leaning towards) i will be putting in the whole Cycle X head rebuild kit.  Is the black engine ports and valves gonna give me a little better bank for my buck vs a K head with some cleaning up?  I just want a fairly reliable combo the will put up some respectable numbers without breaking the bank too bad.  thanks guys.

You will get mixed opinions on the F2 cam and springs. I did. If you are willing to freshen the F2 engine and head that's the best engine. IMHO. If you want to just pop one in and run it the 76F motor is probably the most reliable.

The 76F is already in one of my bikes but i have engines in my basement i could swap in if i decided to use the 76F.  can the F springs be used in a K head?  obviously they are better than the stock K ones.

We know we were just in bed  ;) Patience. The F2/F3 springs are also used in the 78 K and are stiffer. They would come in handy in the upper rpm range when you over-rev due to missed shifts etc to prevent valve breakage and engine destruction. Been there done that and replaced stock springs with S & W springs back in the day. It'll go over 10K/through tach redline without worry. Just try not to miss that 1 to 2 shift around redline. Use them. The F2/F3 cam would be a good alternative to most K cams. The very early K cam and the 75/76 F cam were the best prior to the late F but I can not give you a direct comparison of function.
