wiring on a 74 550
« on: November 12, 2012, 09:49:07 AM »
ok ill start by saying my bikes been running awesome. but the wiring gremlins are getting me again i replaced the flasher with a led no load flasher witch worked probly 10 times and now its not flashing. and my tail light lights up like the brakes are on all the time i cant see anything thats making it do it i tryed un plugging the front and rear switches to see if it would shut off no luck. ok, im thinking of rewiring the whole bike simplify everything. anyone have a diagram on how to do it so it will run. i may or may not run blinkers. or anyone have an idea on what would cause my issues it was fine for alittle while but in 10 years i think every year ive had wiring issues. i do know how to wire cars. it sure seems like theres alot of un needed wires. id like a switch for on and off and mount a switch on head light for high and low, brake light, and maybe a switch some where for blinkers. sorry i know i rambled one a bit lol

Check your wires and see if they got crossed. You might have plugged in the wrong one.have you tried the simple wiring diagrham for choppers.also check your local laws on not having turn signals. If your law enforcement agencies are like ours here they look for anything to pull you over.

Was it properly grounded I know if they are not grounded right they don't last. The one I have has a ground wire coming out of it. I getting ready to hook up turn signals on my chopper so the pigs don't hassle me. What kind of lights are using. I know having them on a chopper sucks. I'm gonna go with the bullet led License plate nuts then at least they don't look like signals sticking out. My 74 doesn't require signals just head, tail, and brake light is all that's required in Kansas.

i have like low profile led billet blinkers i bought from a dollar box at a swap meet. they work and i have the ground wire grounded to the battery since its right next to it. it still works when it feels like it. just not all the time sometimes it blinks fast sometimes slow most of the time it just lights up. the warning buzzer for the blinkers has never worked with the no load flasher either idk why. ill just have to rip into this thing i wish there was just a simple wire this to switched power this too this wiring diagram and id get wire and the soldiering iron out and get it all cleaned up. im kick only. it just needs to have head light tail light charging and spark. simple simple. some one has to have a quicky diagram for it
