Modern rotor conversion options?
« on: November 17, 2012, 01:29:20 AM »

Ive read that Busa front rotors have an inner diameter that is similar to the CB/ GL hub, and can be redrilled to fit. I am switching to a GL1000 front end, and am looking for some lighter options to the stock rotors. Any info regarding which rotors can be redrilled to fit is greatly appreciated. I am aware of Daniel Fischers work, and noted from his Geocities site( which appears corrupted) that 310 mm rotors will work, but would like to do this myself if possible.

Thanks for any help!

I dont know if anybody else is interested in using modern rotors. But they are so much lighter than the OEM ones, and Id like to use some 4 puck Tokico calipers I have. I looked at some Busa rotors and they are almost flat compared to the OEM GL1000 rotors, which I think have the same offset as the one on the CB750. While I would like to have the rotors closer to the center of rotation, Id like to know that I could set up the calipers with enough clearance from the spokes.
Id appreciate any insight or experience.
Thanks

Mr French is using 310mm RC-51 rotors on his turbo Ben. I saw them enough to know that they fit with modern calipers.

Did they just bolt on Mike or did Jim have to modify them... ;)

I posted a few days ago about a rotor that MikesXS sells.

I think I'm going to try this when I get around to restoring my Lester wheels. I'll see what it takes to make this work, unless someone beats me to it.

I used some Yamaha rotors on my bike. The bolt pattern is the same, the offset is close to stock, but the center hole is slightly larger. I made spacer/centering rings, with the speedo side thicker to space both discs equally from the rim. They weigh 2 pounds less each than stock 750 rotors.

Thanks Mike, I wish there were as many non service limit used RC-51 parts floating around as for gsxrs and the like. I wonder if other Honda floating rotors will work as well? I just checked on the EBC site, it looks like the RC51 rotors are the same as a bunch of CBR600, 900, 929, and 954 models.

Nice job on the spacers Scotty, thanks for the idea!
