Gentleman's Express Headlight Ears
« on: November 16, 2012, 11:09:37 AM »
Does anyone recognize these? I have never seen them before.. and I didnt see mention of what they are in the article but maybe I missed it. I am pretty tired of most of the "cafe" ears and the nicer ones I have seen sell for $100  ...anyone know of others like this maybe if these are impossible to find? Otherwise I will be making my own plain Dunstall style ones.

yeah, I've seen those... didnt realize they made them for 35mm tubes, thought they were just for modern sport bikes. Unfortunately these are way out of my price range, and I doubt the ones used in the article were CNC machined (though possibly) as they did a lot less of that back then. Thanks for the help though!

I'm picky and I dont like the rubber/plastic shims. I have almost bought them several times though, they are by far my favorite of whats available for the price.

You've probably seen both of these already...

These look like the ebay item listed above...

And these look kind of similar to the gent express...

What bike is this for? I was curious about this for my 500, but my gaiters tie into my ears.

I ended up using stock ears on my 550 Imp but I had in mind making a set (maybe on the next one) out of sheet aluminum......I think they could be cut easily by a small tabletop jig saw from a pattern or tracing.  Some sanding and basic polishing and viola!!!  Let you imagination run wild.  I had something like below in mind and already have some scrap 1/4" aluminum in mind but I think anything down to 1/8" would work fine......and I believe the cost would be low.  Mount them up with T-Bolts to the fork tubes.  Add some fork tube caps from Cycle Exchange or DCC and you're in business.  What ya think?

yeah I have seen those headlight brackets before, hoping for something different. I guess I will end up making my own... likely in the direction of the Dunstall ones which are basically simplified clip-on's.

Its odd we cant figure out what these period headlight brackets were, I have yet to see them referenced anywhere else.
