750 triple tree on a 650
« on: July 10, 2006, 05:44:10 PM »
ok got my hands on a 1982 750 tree and seems to fit pretty good but my question was about ther bearings.

Mine had just ball bearings in grease but the 750 has cylindrical bearings in a collar.  I think those are better personally so I installed it with those.  Thing is that I can see a little of the bearing through a gap in the bottom of the tree between the tree and the neck of the frame its about a 1/4".  was thinking of making a dust cover that would fit over it.  Any ones have any ideas? or should i just go the ball bearing route?

http://www.federal-mogul.com/aftermarket/us/fm_bearings.htm?Country=USA&NumIm=1 the picture shows the bearing(cone) and the race(cup).the race goes in the frame to hold the bearings in place.

Sounds like you need to swap races.  The races for the ball bearings are keeping the roller bearings from making good and proper contact.  Once you see the diff youll under stand.
