Finally finished the sandcast...well almost!
« on: July 09, 2006, 07:24:51 PM »
Well, all the pieces are back together.....actually rode it around the block last
night.  I still need a new set of disks for the front brake.  I am pleased with
everything except the aluminum polishing...especially the valve cover.  I'm
just not cut out to be a polisher.  ::)

I have what I think are the same carbs on both bikes, but the sandcast seems
to have more power...maybe because it doesn't have an airfilter yet. So now I
need another rider so that both can show up at the bike shows.  ;D

Pic attached....sandcast in front...diecast in rear.

Thanks Bill...I think I have totally confused the neighbors.  :o

Not exactly identical....I need a crashbar and a small windshield for the sandcast.
Maybe a set of the air powered boat horns too.  ;D

Very, very nice....They look fantastic,

Right down to the ductail seat, right hand horn location etc..

Makes me want to get my diecast 100% but alas, funds are short, as per usual.....cheers, TC

Both of the bikes have been repainted. The diecast with a mix that the local
painter chose to match a non-faded area of the bike.  The sandcast used
"Don the painter's" mix....which is excellent.  Don's mix is slightly darker if
you look closely.

I really have come to appreciate why it is much easier to work on a bike you
have owned it's entire life.  Taking apart the sandcast was always a mystery
as to what you would find.  Fortunately, it had not been butchered...only
neglected.

....and thanks to all for the nice comments.  :)

Hey Jim,

Bikes look awesome. The seat on the sandcast does happen to be a repo from CMS does it?

The seat on the sandcast is the original seat off the diecast that has
had the foam replaced.  The seat on the diecast currently is a Honda
replacement seat off Ebay.  I am getting the sandcast's foam fixed and
will then reinstall it.  I will probably leave the new seat on the diecast as
it is more a "daily" rider......and put the spare ducktail in the bank vault.  ;D

Techy, did you do the paintwork or have it done. My CB could use a paint job - but I would want a top notch job and I'm not sure

I'm up to it.

The paint was done by a local friend of mine that runs an auto repair shop.

Nice bikes, good job. I like the windshield and rake on the left bike where did you get them?

The windshield and crash bar were put on in the early 70's and I have not
a clue where I got them.

Well, not quite, I got the crash bar in Vegas on a business trip.  The flight
attendants thought it was a steering wheel.  ;D
