Oh look another carb question...help....
« on: November 17, 2013, 09:36:18 PM »
My resto project has tossed me another question for the masses. My 77 750 f2 carbs seem to be different then the carbs both in the Manuel and the typical carb videos on the interweb.
I've soaked these puppies in 50/50 pine sol and warm water but it seems the slides are gooed into place. Carbs cleaned up nice,  but thought these slides were able to move just by being pushed up. Havent found a lot of info on these carbs.most have the four diaprams. These have a singal diapram pump. ( accel pump) any help is appreciated.

Not sure exactly what you asking here.  The stock carbs for the 77 CB750F are PD41B.  Yes, they have a single accelerator pump that feeds all four carbs.

If they are stuck, I would recommend tearing them down and rebuilding them.  Soaking the carb bodies in hot water and Simple Green or vinegar usually frees them up, but don't soak them for too long of you can discolor the aluminum.

Good advice thank you. Thought the pinsol bath might free them up but to no avail. Is there any pieces inside the slide tube that would be affected by carb cleaner?  Carbs look fantastic other then the stuck slides.

Use a heat gun on the carb bodies where the slides fit.  Work the slides and use something like WD40 to lube them while hot and work them free.

I don't know why you thought pine sol was a good idea.  I suppose it is cheap.  Pretty sure it will eat metal, even if slowly.  Carb cleaners are available that won't eat metal.

Soak and pray are not effective cleaning methods and a poor gamble for success, imo.

If you insist on a soak to free slides, use something with penetrant action, like acetone.  Beware of plastic, rubber and fibrous seals that dissolve in acetone.

The Honda shop manual supplements have some info on the PD style carbs.
However, there have been many many thread topics with better detail in this forum.
