I've been watching you tube videos and reading project threads for the last few hours. I can't believe some of you guys are still alive after the things I've seen some of you do/build. These poor bikes. No wonder so many people hate on the cafe/bobber style.
You do realize these things can go 100+mph and it hurts when you fall off, right?!?
Maybe try learning on something a little less dangerous. Maybe something with 4 wheels?

He's got a point. It's getting to be far more about form than functionality; which is why cafes are gaining in popularity. Style sells, utility doesn't; not on this continent anyway.

I didn't say everyone, but there is a large number of hacks that "restore" or "fix up" these things.
I did find several good project threads as well, but the bad ones really scare me.

Most the people on this forum know more about motorcycles than you do, obviously. If there were so many "dangerous" builds our resident professionals would say something. There's also very few "hack jobs" around here. A motorcycle is a frame, an engine, and 2 wheels. If that's all someone wants, without any extras, so be it. It's not going to make the bike any more or less dangerous, it's the nature of motorcycles. Take your idiocy and leave.

For some that has always been the way to roll. Semi-kinda-free country the last time I checked.

I don't mean to step on your shoes Canary but true cafe chops were always about function- strip the damn thing down to go as fast as possible.
When you get to the bleeding edge FOS gets whittled down quickly. All the other crap is just fluff and circus.

I'll second that. Why? Why would you stay around when you've started out in such a negative way? You'll never get any good advice or even be accepted by anyone who has seen this thread. And if it escalates much beyond this, the mods will get rid of you.

Once I design and build an aluminum diffuser style efi intake manifold and ss turbo header for a modern turbo I doubt anyone is going to care if I generalized a few hack job builds. I'll probably survive until then.

In the meantime, anyone have some extra carb leaf springs for a k1 500?

you do have a point...I too see a lot of noobs doing some questionable mods. The culture around here is pretty forgiving and we generally try to correct mistakes in a positive, encouraging way. On the other hand, why would I care that you want to make an old bike into another computerized gizmo...oh...and turbo's are for diesels...

Actually some of us have a whole other set of carbs that fit that exact bike but I don't feel like bothering with getting them out right now.

Couldn't agree more, considering we ride around on 2 wheels and quite a bit of engineering goes into making bikes "work" properly, i have seen some less than safe mods done to bikes here that make me cringe..In saying that, we all have to learn some how and making mistakes is all part of the deal....
