Ducktail seat
« on: November 20, 2012, 07:41:20 PM »
Could anyone tell me if there's someone out there who makes a ducktail style seat (like the stock one on the '69 CB750K0) for a 550? Or maybe if there's any way to just make it fit, that's fine too haha I just can't seem to find anything like it to fit mine.

The foam is easy enough to glue on a flat seat and contour into a duck tail pad.  Any decent upholstery shop can add a vinyl bump to a quality seat cover.  I would estimate $50 or less for the whole mod.  Finding the foam might be the biggest issue if you don't have a donor seat around.  Cut it with an electric knife and bond with professional quality contact adhesive.  I faked a ducktail on a 69 750 awhile back.

Use EVA foam, it's stiff and will hold the shape well.

Ahhh not sure why I didn't just think of that in the first place. Hahah thanks for the help though, looks like I'll get started on that pretty soon.

I used sleeping bag mat foam with a layer of 1" foam and polyfill on top of my hand hammered 550 K1 frame.  The mat foam trims well with an razor knife and can be sanded to shape with a random orbital.  Even sewed the cover on my old Singer sewing machine.  I had less than 30 bucks in it including the donor seat pan and fake gator skin....LOL  I am a cheap bastard!!!
