Hey, wanted to start a thread to show progress of my 550K project. I'm not really sure where I want to go with it, so I'll chronicle progress and inspiration as it comes along. Couple pictures!

May 2 of this year, day I bought it from a man in Akron.

Started cleaning it up and got rid of the wack taillight and rear fender...

...then rode it all summer.

Then I got sick of getting road grime and water on me from not having fenders, so I cut the old one short and rigged up a front one from a CB360.
I started tearing it down last week. Cool dirty garage u guys.

Here's how it sits as of Monday.

Bare bones.

Spray with Gunk and scrub liberally, 'cause the ladies hate a dirty engine.

Ordered a carb rebuild kit and some handlebars the other night. Replacing the master cylinder, throttle & controls with ones from a dirtbike. I started riding motocross when I was a kid, and these controls are much more comfortable and familiar to me. Going to make a seat from sheet metal and send it to a local upholsterer. I really want to make it into a bike that doesn't struggle on the highway, so I'm going for Carpy's 550 exhaust (better low/mid range). Then, I can regear it taller to keep revs down at speed. I'm 140 lbs, so I'm not worried about low end loss.
