Believe me you can't do decent CG unless you have a solid understandings of the basics of art.  To do good or great CG you have to be a good/great artist. It's the same skillset, just transferred to a digital medium. In Photoshop you mix your on screen colors just like oil paint. I've spent the last 3 days learning to manually create grayscle gradients, and blend colors in Photoshop. I still have a long way to go.
