Iron butt 1000 miles in 24 hours

I was reading the iron butt rules and one example of a ride was Chicago to St. Louis to Kansas city to Des Moines to Chicago. To get the plaque etc. you must provide witnesses and recipts showing date and time at the corners or turnaround locations.
 I'm not sure what the tour will do next year but my brother and I were considering an Iron butt ride. Sound like fun?

I did it once many years ago - Detroit to Texarkana. Approx 1000 miles in 20 hours. I was on a very comfortable Kaw 1000. Wasn't just for fun, had to get back to Texas to pick up my girlfriend at the airport, so I was motivated!
Be glad to be your witness but don't think I'll be doing it again!?

I've thought of doing the Lake Michigan 1000. Basically what some of Team Michigan did only in ONE day, not four.

1000 miles would be pretty tough on these old bikes. 500 in two days does me in. i would try it, but it would be rough.

Aren't you guys a little old to be trailering your bikes for 1000 miles in 24 hours?  ;)

Guess we'll have to enlist a few others. Hell, my bike may even be done by then  ;D  Ofreen, I KNOW you're in.

The downside of that is not being able to spare the time to enjoy the scenery or stop at some little brew pub for a meal and a beer the way Sean, MJ and I were able to do several times.

True true.  Depends on your goal. Sight seeing vs merit badge.

An Iron Butt is one of my lifelong goals to accomplish. I've never had a comfortable enough bike to accomplish though. The Lake Michigan 1000 sounds interesting. I did a search but couldn't find anything. Is this driving the circumference of the Lake? That would be a very scenic route. I used to live in the UP & would drive to Indiana once a month. I think it was highway 2 in the UP ran right next to the lake & had some very nice views.

Hey Old School! (lov that name ;D),

Yes, the Lake Michigan 1000 would be riding around Lake Michigan in less than 24 hours.  It's on my bucket list!  There is also a Lake Superior 1000, a Lake Huron 1000 and even a Lower Lakes (Erie and Ontario) 1000.  Then there is the Great Lakes Gold ride that goes around all 5 in under 50 hours!

ive been considering a lower 1000 ride. my issue is i have no rider buddies with passports to do the canadian leg.

You guys are talking about CUSH rides !!! we have some CHOPPER riders that have done the IRON BUTT on RIGID CB750s.. Talk about a pain in the arse!!!!! and back and arms and if it has muscles it aches!!!!

Yeah, but these are rides that we've done, not about someone else.

YES ,I have a rigid and my AVATAR bike is still sprung (front and rear) but if I was to try something like that it would be on my 2000 ROADSTAR, If I'm going to go it will be on comfort!!
