Help identifying Yoshimura valve springs? Maybe 350F?
« on: November 27, 2012, 07:01:50 AM »
A friend is the parts manager at a Honda dealership, he is going through old stuff in the back room, he found these, unlabeled. He knows I am active on forums and he asked me to post and see if anyone could help. Excerpt from his email-

"check attach of mystery valve spring kits.  looking for more information on Yoshimura high perf valve spring kits for the CB350F.  anybody have in info on these.  i want to sell off this old stock but don't want to sell the wrong thing to any body.  approx 40mm high.  they do not use stock valve cotters.  yosh my have used other honda cotter but i don't know which ones. Those look like a mystery set I bought on ebay for $40 for the 500/550.  I'll take pics later, but I'd like to hear what others have to say...Subscribed.

When I did my 750 in 76 I went Yoshi and bought directly from them. I got S&W springs and stainless stock size Manley intakes. The retainers and seats are quite beefier than stock. The retainer is unlike yours pictured or the stock one. But then again mine is a 750.

I have similar-ish ones in my 460 (400f) however they are a more purple colour and they do take the stock valve retainers. I always thought mine are Yoshi  (can't recollect why) but as that brand name used to be borrowed pretty liberally I wouldn't like to guarantee it.

However, those ones pictured look very lightly packaged for Yoshi stuff... to compare, a Yoshi piston kit came with everything separated, the rings and pins in wax paper & boxed then surrounded in polystyrene which was then boxed, with Yoshi logos everywhere.

He said they may have been on the shelf 25 or 30 years, he's 90+ percent sure they're Yoshi, and were in a 350 sohc bin. Packaging may have changed over the years, and pistons would need better protection, I think. They have a building next door that hasn't been used in years, he is going to dig around and see what else he can find. He worked there for years, left for 8 or 10 years, then recently returned there.

Here are mine.  The retainers look very similar...the springs have some surface rust I need to clean and check for pits..
