Car colors that match Sunrise Flake?
« on: November 23, 2012, 08:52:54 PM »
The closest color Ive been able to find so far is the Honda Element's Sunset Orange Pearl.

Anyone else know of any car colors that come close to Sunrise Flake?

I'm trying to match up a color to order a can of SprayMax.

Have you checked to see if they have it listed under the bikes make  year and color? Candy blue green was.  They shot it with the color gun and it read 69 honda motorcycle teal.

Try orange crush pearl it's a ford color it was a perfect match for the blaze orange metallic on the 2003 Honda shadows. If you like it I can send you the color code of it.

I don't believe there is anything that will look very close from oem car colors.   To understand why it looks the way it does you  have to understand how it was painted in the first place...first you spray silver base, then flake, then orange candy(3+ coats until the color is built up to the correct hue), then clear.  You can probably find a color that is close, but it won't have the same size or amount of flake, and it won't look like real candy....
If it works good, it looks good...

I took one of my side covers down to an auto paint store. They put a camera on the cover and mixed me up a pint of paint.
It was the Blue metalic on a 76 CB550F. Came out great.

Yeah if you have the paint code Ill take it. Thanks.

Thanks Jeff, I like that one.

Thanks for the great info guys. Unfortunately this has to be a Rattle Can job. I dont have the time, space, or equipment to do a spray gun job in my garage or the finances to have it professionally painted. Some day, just not now.
So Im looking at getting the Spray Max rattle can in a car color that I can find the paint code. Ill paint the bike in something that looks better than the post apocalyptic burnt flat black gas tank without side covers.

Another option that I had was to paint it in Metallic Burnt copper from Duplicolor and cover it in a Spray Max clear.

Not a bad idea. Might be able to get it put in a rattle can

Just thinking - the flake is a really tough colour to match. I've seen a lot of "kind of close" paint jobs for that orange and they look kind of fake. If you can get an exact match like the teal colour that Don mentions above I think that would look a whole lot better - and you can buy the OEM stripes pretty reasonable. I reallly like that orange on my '74.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Not really trying to match the flake, that would be almost impossible to look nice from a rattle can, just the color.
