1977 Vespa P200 rebuild
« on: November 29, 2012, 12:20:46 AM »
I rebuilt this bike mechanically, then on the first time really out riding it, I got hit in a hit and run accident. I got a payout from the insurance, and finally found someone to work on it.

The first round of parts is back from the bodyshop/paint and looking great! Some parts are still curing or needed to be retouched, so I will get those next week. Red "extra" parts are primed, new horn cast and the original spare sidecovers, but not painted yet.

No material was cut out or added, all the parts are the originals, he did it strictly body hammer and re-weld of the front cross brace that had a broken weld.
He actually could have made a few spots on the floorboards better with a thin Bondo layer, but he thought I said he could not use it, so I have some small irregular spots on the left rear of the floorboard where he could not smooth out the metal.
Still better than what came out of the factory.
Need to run new harness and control cables, that will keep me busy for a while...

You can see the "original" Silver inside the bucket area. He did a dead on match, except the new paint is much shinier and has more depth.

Nice bike!  I used to have a 1981 Lambretta Jet 200.   It's definitely one of the bikes I should have never sold. I bought it in 1990 for $200 in perfect shape and around 250 miles on the clock.  It was white with a rear mounted spare.  Like an idiot, I sold it about a year later for $1000.

I recently had a 1984 Aero NH80 but a few weeks ago I found a 84 Aero NH125 in practically mint condition so I snapped it up. It's a great scoot but I miss the Jet 200.

One of things on my "bucket list" is to do some touring on a scooter and a bike like yours would be at the top of my list as the scooter I would choose.  It would be a fun adventure.
