most states if the registered owner misplaces the title it's just a small fee for a replacement in their name, transfer fees etc applied when transfered.

if it's lost from a series of sales where the bike/car was never transfered to any of the owners, it normally needs a bill of sale, inspection and whatever else the state wants. DMV will normally provide you with all the info you need in regards to lights etc.

I buy a lot of untitled cars and bikes and have never had an issue with it.

ken.

You will have to present some sort of title in order to put plates on the bike, insure it, etc...
Illinois is way strict on this, so be prepared to apply for a lost title the minute you get the bike...

If a bike that new has no title and the owner is that stupid, what might he have done to the bike.  It's either hot or a loser-  personally, I wouldn't even consider it.

Due what I did when I got my 550, apply for the lost title as the original owner, have it sent to your house, then sign it over, I'm in IL too

I did know the original owner however, was my cousin, just maybe get your original owner's John Hancock instead of forging it on the form if its not too far out of the way.
