Where to get Candy Bacchus Olive paint?
« on: November 26, 2012, 01:09:45 AM »
I may be trying to paint my CB Candy Bacchus Olive green. Has anyone ever used paint from this company, VMR Paints?
Here is a link: http://www.ct70paint.com/bacchus-olive.html

I have also noticed that the new 2013 Triumph Thruxton has a Brookland Green paint option that is pretty similar to the Candy Bacchus Olive. This may be a second option. Any ideas?

I know that the candy paint colors need to be painted in layers, so I don't think the touch up bottles will do much for me. I did check the entire website and didn't find any 70's colors.

I've got a 73 Green machine and I still get an old timer kidding around with me once in awhile about owning an "Army" bike as they seemed to be called back in the day.

Nowadays, an "Army" bike would be colored Desert Sand Brown.  ;)

And as this old GI can tell you, Army green, was "olive drab" and as flat as a fritter.   No shine, no chrome, no polished metal.  Just dull flat olive drab.  All intended to keep the painted item in the background, call no attention to it, let it blend in.   No resemblance at all to any of the Honda paint line.  Don't see how anyone could confuse the two.

Think you guys are overthinking it.With the brighter colors of candy Honda was making at the time green and brown was not a favorite of some of the riders. I also have never seen a shiny green tank  :)

fwiw, imho, the bacchus olive is an elegant understement on the k3. My first 750 back in 74 got a lot of stoplight conversation, even when it was barely a season old. I think if more folks could see it
"in person" they would come to appreciate it. If I could ever get back any one bike I've ever owned, it'd be my k3.

P.S.  If it means anything, VMR paints address is near St. Louis Mo.

I do like a lot of old Honda candy colors. I don't think that photos do the Candy Bacchus Olive justice, or any candy color for that matter. I just want to know where to get the paint. I actually kind of like the fact that not everyone and their brother likes the color. I don't want my bike to look like everyone else's.  :P

A couple more examples of Candy Bacchus Olive I found:
