I have a set of Henry Abe wheels I got with a couple project bikes. I want to get them powder coated so I broke them down to replace the bearings and get them ready. Well my joy quickly turned to being PISSED as there are very poor threads on the rear wheel for the bearing retainer. I have been sick to my stomach everytime I think about how to fix it. I just saw a post about some Lester wheels and the rear doesn't have a threaded on retainer but it does have a groove and snap ring. When my bearings arrive this week would taking it to a local machine shop to have a groove added be a safe alternative? Any other thoughts on how to fix this problem? The wheel only has the bottom third of its threads in ok shape. Could I just snug it up and use some thread locker...let me know what you think.
