Exhaust and oil

Rode the bike the other day, looked at it last night, oil seemed to have dripped from the exhaust right by the gear selector. Has never happened before. Does this mean its blowing by oil, and an overhaul is needed? Checked the oil levels, everything looks good, no other leaks except for some seepage from the head.

Just picked the bike up and now rethinking my decision. Oy.

I see its your first post welcome.

Bike ID pls, yr, model etc. A little background. Stock, Modified, stock pipes, etc.

I suggest putting it (ID) in the Subject line, you'll get interested responders quicker.

Oil on the left side dripping may be from chain...depending on...

Have a close look at the shifter seal.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

Have a close look at the shifter seal.

+1.

1-Take the side cover off. (will need to remove the shifter to do so)
2-Completely clean that area. 
3-De-grease entire underside of engine as well.
4-Go ride.
5-When you see the leak again, go back to step one. 
6-Find leak.

There are a few different o-rings under that cover.
Most likely is the shift shaft seal.  Then maybe oil pressure sender.  Or oil galley relief plug(s).
Worse case scenario is the case seal, behind the front sprocket.  Doesn't usually leak though.

What I have found as the most common source of leaks around that area on the 650's is the oil pump.  It has (off the top of my head) 4 o-rings that seal it, pull it off, strip it down and take it into your local bearing/seal shop they will be able to provide you with some new o-rings.  When I did mine it cost something like $2.  Make sure though that you tell them they are metric o-rings not SAE.
