Choke cable measurements.
« on: November 30, 2012, 04:24:04 AM »
Working on a 650 into a 500 swap and the VB44A carbs use a choke cable.

I'm wondering if I can use a 550 or 750 choke cable. The stock 650 cable has a funky mount that uses the handle bar clamp. Not sure if that will for on the 500.

Can anyone measure the total length and free length of a 550 and/or 750 choke cable for me?
The stock cable for the 650 is approx. 37.5" long total length (including knob) with about 2" of free length at the end.

I have a 550 cable for those PD carbs plus a 79 CB650 cable. The outer cables are the same length, but the 650 piece (at least the 79 model with PD carbs) has a  +-1" longer inner cable.

You could use the 650 cable and 550 cable stay?

This is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for! Thanks, Bwaller!

Well....I think so, anyway. I have the VB44A carbs....does anyone know if the choke cables are the same on all 650's?
 Off to Motogrid to check....

EDIT: It looks like the '79-80 use one part #, 17950-426-000. The '81-82 use another part #, 17950-460-730.
The measurement I have is from an '81, which is what I need. I wonder how much difference there is?

Also, am I correct in thinking that the free length is what really matters?
