Yoshi did 823 but that's basically a 810 anyway but with 2 rings not 3.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Both Rob & Mike are right about Yoshimura. Especially in roadracing circles their parts were the go-to fast goodies. With this engine Pops seemed to like to do more with less in terms of displacement. Once guys strayed to bigger bores things went boom. Yoshimura was about lightweight components for high reving engines.

In the shop where I worked my boss roadraced and had these same rod issues when the bore went to 900cc. No-one liked blowing engines and he went back to smaller bores (preferred 810) and was very succesful. He was eventually thankful for RC rods that seemed to hold together. Let's be honest though in those days privateer mechanics were on their own and didn't have internet forums to access good information. So some ideas worked, some did not.

Cut to nearly forty years later....we have among other things, rods and pistons & rings available that are light years better than what was at our disposal then. Not to ruffle feathers, but I too am surprised at the renewed interest in old tech parts. Myself included, to still be playing with these old tech bikes descibes what we're about as individuals I suppose, nostalgia be damned!

Lighter is better. I wonder if Paul Gast and Ashley Owens could have run 3.90's on nitrous in the 1/8th mile with heavy pistons.

No worries. I've enjoyed following the debate.  I posted some more pics on the other thread including an Andrews 4 cam that came with the engine.  Think that will add some pep to my stock SOHC 4  :)

When it comes to nitro, weight is not a concern. Not lubing the dragstrip takes center stage.  I make the pins for virtually all of the nitro bikes including the HDs.

What we don't want is pin flex tearing up the small end bore in the rods, etc,   Spiderman can make a 5.80 240 mph run and then push my pins out with their fingers.

I would not hesitate to run one of our 15 mm TF pins in any sohc Honda.

The pistons in my RC engine are Venolia as well.... ;)
750 K2 1000cc
750 F1 970cc
750 Bitsa 900cc

I think early were Venolia,later Arias? Other way around? Just weighed my bare 836 Venolia RC piston..191.3 g.
The 970 Arias is 219.25. Stock 161g. Jay's APE 1000 Alcoa/MTC 204.45 g..........Ken's CycleX 915 Wiseco made to his specs,155(154.2)!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not running nitro here....OK not yet,so for a person running gas,I like the 915 esp,since you can do it w/out having to bore cases! 8) My .02,Bill

I don't like aluminum rods and never have. I don't care who made them. Carrillo have always been my benchmark though modern stock rods are very good. My friend used stock GS rods in multi time world champ Gary Clark's turbo funnybike....those could handle 60 to 70 lbs. Better match your components carefully.

Glasses Sam, glasses. Reading type. 970, 1000 and 1080. I got a set of NOS 1080's in the basement with matching cylinders. I'll pack them in my suitcase for our next race! Piss on that little 915 #$%*! Let's see how quick Bill can swap top ends between race days ;D Give'em another surprise.
