I am working on the right control switch on my 1976 CB550 and have had to put the throttle cable on and off the throttle sleeve several times. I am getting it done, but it has been a pain in the ass every time I have to put it back on. I'm pretty sure I am not doing it right, so can someone tell me the proper way to do it. I've never been shown before. Thanks!

Remove or lift up the tank, unhook throttle cable from carb, then throttle control should be easily remove from handle bar

goldarrow is right, and the easiest way to get them off the carb is to back off the adjusting nuts a touch and slide the adj. shaft out of it's holder. Then the cable has plenty of play to come easily off the carb. There really shouldn't be any prying or difficulty whatsoever that way.

Thanks! I know it's probably motorcycle repair 101, but I haven't taken the class yet.  ;)

It depends on if you want to put them back on.
If you don't, an angle grinder works fine.
 ;)
If you do - then the only way is to pull the tank, disconnect 'em at the carb pull, and if you don't wanna bang or scratch anything as they swivel around (when you unscrew them from the bottom of the switch housing) , feed them back out so they hang away from the bike.
Just remember how they were routed so you don't end up with them binding as you near steering lock in either direction.
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.
