Is it possible to fix a broken fin?
« on: November 28, 2012, 06:07:43 PM »
A piece about a inch long and 1/4 deep chipped off my head. I have the piece.  Any ways to get it back on there?

A VERY GOOD welder could build up the missing area to oversize and you could grind/file it back down to shape.  Seen a few done that way with good results.

I used JB WEld and some furniture veneer clamps on a fin chip a bit larger than yours, top cylinder fin. I had the piece. can't hardly tell.

Can't tell at all as it is hidden under the head fin overhang.

Here's a before and after. I think it will come up fine, with a soda or bead blast. I used a tig welder to build up the fins, a light grind of the bulk and file finish.http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p615/gl455darkly/100_4064.jpg[/img]

Sorry greenninja, I stuffed up the photos some how. I'll try again. If it doesn't work this time I'll give it a miss.
