Well, we made it to Speedweek 2013, it was as hot as hell when we arrived late friday, and hotter than hell Saturday, Sunday & Monday.
I breezed thru scrutineering Saturday, after fixing a pin hole leak in the alloy seat tail / fuel tank.
As it was hot with a 10 MPH head / cross wind Monday (1st day of racing) , I chose to line up early Tuesday morning,,which saw me leave the line fourth, behind  2 bikes, and a lakester.
I had a 5 MPH tail wind  ;D, and 30 degrees @ 8.30 am, the engine run rough in the 1st 3 gears, but cleared in 4th, although it was a bit fat, things seemed ok,,I hit 5th early (16,500 rpm) after tucking in,,I bagan to wind it out, heading to 17,000 RPM, the exhaust note changed to a "flutter",,DAMN,,,a holed piston, soooo early  :(
Getting back to the pits,,I pulled the plug from #4 (the one I'd burnt a spark plug earth strap off during testing at home), it looked a bit browned, but on closer inspection with a magnifying glass, I noticed some powdered alloy up beside the porcelain , I then had no trouble poking 300 mm of wire down the plug hole,,,oops  ::)
I pulled #1 plug,,the 1st thread had only discoloured on one side, so was not running lean (methanol fueled)
I'm thinking I may have partially created the start of the hole during testing in November ?
I'll know more after tearing the engine down, I hope to find one more holed piston , which will help diagnose why the run failed.
I was doing 116 mph in 5th when it happened.
Such is life,
Tiny

Gee that's a pity Tiny, it sounded like it was running really sweetly too. All the best mate, that's a wicked little weapon! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Molloy did 121.8** in 2010 (different class) , I was chasing him,,actually,,I met his son , who was riding the bike this year, but had what appeared to be a selector quadrant plunger problem making gear changes impossible, and I don't know if he sorted is and run or not ?, he was aiming for,,,,130 mph,,,damn,,,,,
Its a great place for things to stuff up, that salt lake is,,,,I developed a fuel tank pin hole which the chief scrutineer found for me, a mate blew 2 rods outa the bottom of his 530 cube V8 '39 Chevy, in the same spot I holed the piston, the engine had done only 10 miles from new,,all on the salt., he blew another 3 months ago doing a burnout at the start of a 1/4 mile Adelaide drag strip,
Dontcha LOVE racing ?

Damn, if it hadn't blown you would have beaten Perry's outright 250 land speed record, 116mph and another gear to go. :o

Better get back next year young fellow. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

There were a couple of guys there running NSR 150s in the 175 class, any idea how they went on?

Not yet Sam. things happen SLOWLY with the DLRA,,it can take a month or so to get the results posted (on past experience)
The A 175 recode of 87 mph,,is MINE,,lol, well, my bike with young Cec Fraser riding it.
Next project for the creation station is to streamline the 175, it's got 95 in it with the right jockey  :P

Cec weighs young girls on his nose, all growd up is he,,, :o
He also resembles a bean pole lately, pushing 6',,,, he was entered on RD350,,his considerate boss phoned 8 hrs before he was due to leave for the lake, cancelling his holidays  >:(
The RD is the only Team Silverton vehicle that didn't expire, 'cos it wasn't ridden.

Hi Tiny
Hope you enjoyed the journey !    going fast is a journey hey !

Mate the flies beat me up bad, I couldnt cook all the fancy food I took cos flies, I just lived on berry and nut bars cos I could open them up and eat under my fly net  ;D ;D ;D

Re your piston problem !  you mentioned your fuel tank is at back of seat so I assume you have an electrical pump to deliver to the carb ?   if so Ive had some issues with motors converted to blown motors that the fuel pressure just drops suddenly at highish RPM for one of a few reasons .  just wondering do you have a fuel pressure gauge on the dash ?
cheers johno

Johno, thanks for the comments, we did all the cooking out on the salt, bugerall flies,,,,
The pits were closer to the canteen this year, the flies could see us,,so a few made the trip.
I had no end of probs with fuel pumps, ended up making friends with gravity,,it flowed 2 ltr/minute thru the carb with the drain plug out then.
I vented via a 20mm ID hose which was poked out alongside the blower drive, slightly pressurizing the fuel tank.

I've been flat out in the creation station, and I'm getting close to a startup  ;D

After a few soft K's on gas, I'll throw the Mikholley carb on, fuel in & try my best to blow it up, before nominating by 15th jan ,If it does "pop" I ony have to buy beer to go to the salt and save $375  ::)
