Tires wore down abnormally fast??!
« on: November 02, 2013, 09:10:06 PM »
I have a quick question. I put on new tires on my K1 in the beginning of the summer, rode 4,500 miles and they're already toast? Am I missing something or does that seem pretty quick?

To be fair, probably 4,200 of those miles are 2-up with my fiancé, saddle backs and a duffle on the back for camping. Could that really cause the tires to cut their life in half?

I had the same issue with my K1, I was wearing continental RB-2/K112 classic tires. liked the way they felt but the back center was bald. I was slightly overinflated I believe. put on a set of Battlaxs. love them so far, only have ~1000 miles on them though, but everyone says they are fairly long wearing tires.

what width are they?
running an overly wide tire on a stock rim will deform the tire & make the center wear quickly...

That's normal for decent handling tyres, Dunlop TT100's on the rear are lucky to make 3,500

5000 miles is a number I remember as normal for rear tire back in the days. Harder driving or softer tire around 3000 miles.

I have Battlaxs on the 750F2, but not by choice - it came with them on.

I fitted a pair of Battlaxs to my old XJR1200 and ended up having to change the front before the rear, something I've never had to do in 35 years of riding. The front wore in a 'pointy' fashion, giving an almost triangular profile which began to affect the handling the more it was pronounced. By around 2K it had to go. At the time I was doing 70 mile a day commutes on fairly straight roads, perhaps if there had been a few more twisties thrown in they may have worn better, I don't know. When the time comes to change these out, I'll be looking for sticky Avons or Pirellis.

yep, those sticky good soft rubbers don't last long, especially when loaded up on those long straight american roads...best part about it is getting a new one and heading for the curves :)
If it works good, it looks good...
