plating the inside of a fuel tank certainly is an interesting alternative to lining... problem is the ethanol theyre putting in gasoline now is corrosive to many, many metals, copper being one of them.. i wonder what kind of effect a rotted copper plating would have in your fuel?

Not sure if anyone suggested plating a tank, I sure did not. Just made an observation, about findng a way to flash plate by accident..

i thought you were suggesting doing it to a tank, which doesnt seem like a bad idea with the right metal... i was trying to use something i thought was a wire hanger, turned out had something else in the allow that put a light plating on the inside of my tank, might have been tin or something... but, using a steel rod i had used before after sanding it down, i seem to be collecting big chunks of green goo around the anode..

disgusting stuff, but it cakes the rod so thick, so quick that i have to keep washing it off just so the anode will actually function properly.. what this could be is i used a brass plated chain to shake inside to knock the loose pieces of rust off, that i think might be attracted to the anode, though its not actually changing the properties of the anode itself.. either that, or some of the loose piece of rust that remained are attracting to and sticking to it

reguardless, ill keep wiping this crud off every so often as the tank itself is still electrolyzing normally

Sorry, cup is too much per gallon, 10% solution so 1 part citric to 10 parts water and always add powder to water, never water to powder
which is it? 1;10 comes out to 13 oz acid to one gallon, one cup is 8 oz

I've got some vinegar and have done the vinegar treatment to other rusty things, but I didn't like the way it continued to eat away at the base metal and flash rust when it was dry so I bought some citric acid and want to try.

so vinegar will continue to eat away at the part you are trying to save?? how long do you leave it in for then?

For other rusty things use molasses, works unbelievably well. Ask Dave 500.... ;)

I used Evapo rust also and was very happy with the results as well as the safety factor. I used sheet rock screws to scrape the the rust flakes out, others have used chain.   Looked really great after a week or so moving to different positions.

I left the part in for a week or two, once a day I'd pull it out and go over it with a toothbrush. He part was a lid from a Santee electrical box, which is probably not made of a decent grade of steel.I had other parts, nuts and bolts, in there, and I don't remember them looking eaten away.

I still would like someone to post a measurable ratio for the citric acid to water, at ten to one  and there being 16 cups in a gallon that's a bit over 1.5 cups per gallon.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Ive used evaporust and it worked great. Very expensive. I am a fan of vinegar. Used it now on 3 tanks and it works great. Rinse with a pressure washer. Pour in baking soda then rinse again. Rinse a few times until all residue is gone. Cheapest way only time consuming. No flash rust issues

Evapo rust is not expensive at all if preserving original paint is a desired outcome.

The product itself can be costly, but if you find something to take up the volume and are willing to invest the time in repositioning the tank every few days, you really won't use that much-- depending ,of course, on how rusty your tank starts out.

1 cup citric acid to a gallon of warm water does the trick, unbelievable results on my 350f tank, still a big chicken on using those tank sealing products afterward though, it runs so well now, i don't want to mess with perfection, if it shows any rust, i'll just use citric acid solution again, quick and easy lil bike chore during winter months
