I remember someone once mentioning a VW distributor being used. Why not contact Russ Jr. and ask?

Greggo, there's alot of info on the R.C. angle drive setup. Terry from Australia, me and a few others had alot of info on the setup.
do a search here and you'll find it.
Aw hell i can't pass this up, here is the coil you'll need for a duel point setup.....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MALLORY-VOLTMASTER-12-VOLT-MASTER-VINTAGE-IGNITION-COIL-28675-CHEVY-FORD-DODGE-/110980036285?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d6ecf6bd&vxp=mtr
I believe the points can be had at any speed shop that carries Mallory products like Summit, Jegs, etc....
Also, this distributor is made special for the R.C. angle drive as it rotates in reverse rotation " counter clockwise ". So if you wanted to install a magneto with the VW bottom drive it has to be setup " phased " in reversed rotation. Mallory doesn't make these distributors anymore, i called to find that out.
Here is the cap for your dizzy......
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Mallory-Distributor-Cap-Driver-Side-Black-MG-MGB-75-74-73-72-71-70-225-/130804129684?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AVolkswagen&hash=item1e74889f94&vxp=mtr
The distributor # on yours should be " YL-541-HP And here is the 6 pages of jib-jab about this setup. Good luck !!
Also the Mallory # for the points is " 25042x " Double check it to be sure !

Hey Greggo, I just remembered i have the coil you need. It's from my KZ R.C. angle drive setup. I don't need it as i sent the special dizzy off to Terry from Australia. If i decide to use the drive i'm gonna use a magneto. So if ya want it, $ 30.oo to your door. PM me if yer interested.
P.S. Here's a pic of the coil.......

Thanks Blue! I did some searching, and I've done a lot of reading. Could've been internet forum reading overload
and I just breezed over it. We'll have one of those caps at my dad's VW shop. Now I've got to read more about converting it to electronic
I'll PM you about that coil

Greggo, Mallory makes a electronic distributor for the type 1,2,3,4 aircooled engines but i'm not sure if the parts are interchangable with the old duel point dizzy.

Changing to electronic should be fairly easy. I've changed points distributors to electronic on just about every type used on british cars. Not sure if this is the correct one for this application, but it's like what your looking for -

Whoa. I just sold a 64 Ranchero with that coil. It was Mallory brand. I still have the Mallory distributor to fit Ford 289. If the dual point distributor accepts a Type I cap, it may also accept the type I points plate and any of the electronic ignitions like comp-u-fire or Pertronix. If you want to go mad scientist, I have a complete electronic distributor from 84-92 Vanagon that could work...

The point's plate is different as the R.C. setup is reversed. I remember something about having to flip the plate over and you have to flip the points cam and the advance mechanism which has to have the advancer studs cut off and relocated and welded.
It can be done but what a real pain in the a$$ !!!
