cb 750 engine numbers
« on: December 07, 2012, 02:50:27 PM »
Hi all!!  I need some help with some engine numbers..I know that for cars the motor numbers match the the vin if it is original..When i bought my 750 K4 the motor that was in it ran well but had the crack in the case from the chain...(thanks PO). But i got and extra motor and some other parts as well ...all for  600 bucks. I am not sure the motor in it is original. The numbers are different. Can anyone tell me what i have here??  pics are from the two motors ..and my vin plate on frame.

This is a popular timeline a lot of us use. Handy to take with you if you go look at a bike also. Can your old case be repaired possibly with JB or welding ?   http://www.hondachopper.com/engine/engine_timeline/timeline.html

Thanks for the timeline link...should come in handy. The motor just has a crack, not a hole ..so i think itcan be repaired(welded) pretty easily.  Not sure if i am going to rebuild this engine or use the other one i have. Leaning towards the other one which may have lower miles..But uncertainty of history may require inspecting BOTH inside and out to see which one would be better

You don't even have to worry about the engine  when it comes to registration UNLESS your state requires engine # also on title!!!  On some engines you could find UN-NUMBERED cases because they were replacements back when they were still available.  Good info to have #s so you get an idea of year of MFG of engine.
Unless you are the original owner of the bike, that engine could have been changed a couple of time in over 30 years!!
