Master Cylinder Replacement (Yup, again)
« on: September 24, 2012, 07:16:00 PM »
Hey All,

So the MC on my bike is crap (siezed, etc etc). I searched pretty relentlessly through previous post but I guess I still have questions. I'm looking for a suitable replacement. From what I understand, the CB500 needs 13 mm piston bores. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good sources (im in the US) for a suitable replacement (looks be damned).

I'm also fairly close to being over budget on this build so any cheaper alternatives would be nice.

David Silver Spares sells pattern replacements damn cheap, as cheap as a Honda rebuild kit. I believe Silvers has a US site now.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

I used one from a dual sport bike. Most have 7/8 bars & disc brakes. I didn't check bore size, but works fine. I haven't had any problems. Plus they're usually smaller, have threads for a mirror, & all metal(don't have to worry as much about leaks). Just a thought

Both are great suggestions. You mentions that DSS has a US site now. Is there a link or is it the same as the .uk site?

I just put the one from David Silvers Spares on my 78.  It works well and looks dang near stock.  I just need to figure out how the brake switch works on this one because the one from my old master wont work with this new one

What happens if you put a bigger MC on your bike without changing anything else?

I have this same  one:

Works great, looks stock. If you get one and want your clutch lever to match to brake lever that comes with it:
