Hello from Michigan!
« on: December 06, 2012, 12:43:46 PM »
Hi everyone! I've finally got enough money saved up to by own bike, love the old style bikes and fell in love with the CB750 when I was a teenager. I've been looking through my local craigslist and came across a 1976, and am going to go take a look at it this weekend. I can't link to the ad, but if you look for a 1976 Honda cb750 in the Lansing MI craigslist you'll see it.

My question for you folks is this: is $2,000 a good deal? Any specific details I should check for? And does anyone wan that hideous windjammer? lol

Thanks a ton!
-Andrew

Welcome...if it's running, riding, and titled that looks alright although with patience you could do much better here in Michigan.  Will this be your first bike?  If so, I recommend taking a more experienced friend or relative to test ride for you.  I just sold an identical bike to that, that ran and rode nicely, only needing some very minor repairs, and maybe just a shade worse cosmetically.  I sold it for $1200, but it was to a friend...I probably would have asked $1500 from a stranger
If it works good, it looks good...

Hiya zen, I'm not at all a wheeler dealer but I think Sean has hit it very well. It should start/run/shift/charge/lights...etc...
You say you want to remove the Vetter, do you want to keep the rest as is?

The body parts look pretty good. Tank, side covers, fenders.
Are any of the takeoff parts included? saddlebags/backrest included? passenger pegs? airbox? front turn sigs? old pipes? seat trim?
Maybe you dont need/want any of that stuff.

Zen, I hope to see you out mid-Michigan way next summer on your CB!

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to heed your advice! I want to keep the bike all original, a full restoration is my end game. My dad and our neighbor, who is a euro bike collector, will be coming with me this weekend so I feel confident. Everyone I've talked to has concluded that $2,000 for this bike is too expensive. The vetter is the only extra included.

I've been corresponding with the seller, and he assures me that the bike runs like a champ. My plan is to offer $1500 CASH assuming everything checks out. Hopefully all goes well!

Thanks guys, hope to see you guys out on the road soon!

Welcome to the Forum!  I'd be interested in the Vetter Windjammer fairing if you score the bike.
