Coils: FL703-12V -vs- AW82-TRI
« on: February 02, 2013, 07:01:56 PM »
I know this is a noobie question. I know that it MUST have been asked before, perhaps many times. I've looked, I've searched, I've fumbled through the FAQ's, but I just haven't had any luck finding the answer to my question. I know it's been answered somewhere out there before. My apologies for the duplicate.

Will the AW82-TRI coils (from 80's SOHC CB650's, 80's DOHC CB750's, etc) work as a suitable replacement for the older FL703-12V coils?

the 650 has an electronic ignition and a different charging system, the 650 coils are 3 ohm,,the others are 5 ohm, theyll work but load the points and charging system more.

I'm trying to help out a local CB750 guy with my AW82-TRI coils (I have a pair of FL703-12V too, but am not as eager to give them up). These responses have got me thinking though....  can the coils AND the electronic ignition from the CB650 be swapped in? How much trouble am I asking for by suggesting that?
