Making A Cafe Seat- FG Finishing Questions
« on: December 12, 2012, 03:24:43 AM »
So my first time FG glassing and I have seat mold glassed, removed and a few more layers of glass and resin currently curing (followed the DCC video pretty much). My question is how do i go about making it all smooth and pretty?

Once I sand the stray hairs and globs of resin down what do I do? Obviously there will be a few air pockets and the like so how do i fill these in? I just finished smoothing out the kneed dents in my tank so thats pretty much the extent of my bondo body work experience.

The plan I had in my head was get everything roughly as level as possible then pour an additional layer of resin over the whole thing (hopefully this will fill in any small holes or dimples). Past that, to fill in any major unsymmetricalities, I was thinking bondo (been using gold bondo) but was worried about any flexing causing cracking later on so not sure what to do about that. I thought maybe mix in some FG hairs when I mixed the bondo but wasnt sure how much that would help.

So people, what advice do you have for me?

You could trying smoothing some voids with resin just don't go crazy. I used short hair impregnated bondo to smooth my seat. Mine is totally upholstered so didnt need finishing steps too much

Would mixing pulled apart hairs into gold bondo have a similar outcome?

Yeah its just more work but the same idea. Short chopped glass is easier to sand vs long strand.
