yeah, I'm not going with a fine suit considering I have to fold it in a backpack for 250 miles first before I get there. bowtie and vest is on my list!

For the uninformed, is it an actual ride or just a photo op? You'll have to forgive me for lacking in the hipster department. ;)

It is an actual ride. It is a tally an international event with rides all over the world happening on the same day. It's happening on September 29th if you want to find a ride near you.

Chef, what's the holdup with the starter.

I bought another starter motor, and am going to have it cleaned and rebuilt so I can drop it in. I have no time to do it myself because of my promotion at work, I've been working a lot more. its laborious getting that starter out and in (replace the stator gasket, and shifter cover gasket. Then there's the small part where I fear I get the starter motor rebuilt and all fresh, dropped in, and it still doesn't work. so I just kick it for now ;)

Fear not!  You made it through a first timer rebuild - starter is a piece of cake.  When you do get it working you will marvel at how the bike will start by just barely touching the button.  Kicking I guess could look cool to some..... but it's way more cool to summon the 68 horses by a touch of the finger. ;D

Fear not!  You made it through a first timer rebuild - starter is a piece of cake.  When you do get it working you will marvel at how the bike will start by just barley touching the switch.  Kicking I guess could look cool to some..... but it's way more cool to summon the 68 horses by a barely perceivable flick of the finger. ;D
+1 Not much can go wrong, on my basket case, one of the first things I did was to put a DMM on the starter wire on the r/h switch n see if it was grounding, it wasn't, not to say that's Chef's problem but apart from the solenoid and the starter clutch, I can't understand why it's not working. Also the kickstarter on these bikes isn't very friendly IMO, not like a Triumph or Norton anywho. Of course if you ever owned a Norton you'd know that the kickstarter needs to be very friendly and reliable on them  ;D

well.....not good news here. had an accident today. I am ok. Yolanda is not. She ain't going anywhere for awhile

I was riding down to meet a buddy for pizza in the right lane (which I try not to ride in often because of this scenario) and a guy in a small pickup truck pulled out in from of me, taking a left turn. he started to pull out and then stopped. only about 2 feet or so in the lane. it all happened so fast. I ended up having just enough time to veer to the right (so I did not hit his truck with my body or fly into the street) and clipped him right on his front left tire/panel area. my body flipped over the bars and I flew over the corner of his truck bed. because I was able to turn in to the right, I was able to not hit anything with my body but the ground.

adrenaline took over and I stood right up and shouted some things I don't remember. he got out and asked if I was ok. I checked all my appendages, joints, back, and neck. not a broken bone or a single drop of blood. unbelievable how lucky I was. the impact was about 20-30 mph. he has insurance, as do I, and the police officer stated he was cited for failure to yield and is at fault. Yolanda did not fare as well. the front end is presumably done. rim is bent badly along with some spokes. fork ears are twisted. I am not sure about the forks themselves though. the front fender is bent badly. left hand control is broken along with both the clutch and brake levers. the bars are toast too. the front signals are broken as well. the left engine guard bar did its job, and although its gone and it pressed into the stator cover ripping it out.....it looks like JUST the stator cover is gone. no damage to the pipes, or engine. without that guard bar that whole left section would be done for. the rear wheel remains true and SURPRISINGLY not a single bit of paint was scratched. I had fuel leakage even after it was uprighted so I need to check the carbs.

my worst fear is the frame neck was bent. that means a new frame, and a total restoration to pull off all parts and put on a new frame.....sigh. now playing the insurance game and waiting. hoping I can get a check to fix up the bike. its my only bike so now I am going to be grounded during our best weather of the year. I am VERY thankful to be alive and without injury other than road rash and an uncoming body bruise. I am glad I was wearing my full gear. be safe out there guys. yolanda will be rebuilt, just sooner than I really wanted. any well wishes/prayers are welcome, as well as leads on parts in the coming months. thanks for all the support this far guys.

Chef...glad you came through this with only the pain of seeing your bike on the ground and no serious injuries. I even kringed seeing your pics. Yolanda will be on the road again...dang stupid drivers just never look...I hear you about that right lane. I am also very cautious in that lane and slow like you did which probably saved a lot more damage to you and Yolanda. Keep the spirits up man...we are here with ya'.

So sorry to hear. Glad you're alright though. I had a nasty tank slapper on the highway a few years back on my K1. Me and the bike parted ways, hit the pavement head first around 75 MPH or so and lights out, lost a lot of skin on that one! Glad you're alright aside from some scrapes and bruises, the bike can be fixed and you'll be back in the saddle next season.

Here's what mine looked like. And me, I was a bloody mess but the full face helmet saved my life.

The most important thing is that you are OK.  I saw your thread title and was worried.  Sorry to hear about the bike. We all know how much blood, sweat, and tears went into your build.  Yolanda will rise again!

Thanks for all of the support guys. It really means a lot.  You are all correct. Broken parts are easier to deal wih and mend than broken bodies. Cadunkie that's some
Carnage right there. I fared much greater than you did. That's the bike you are restoring? Gives me hope for mine. She will ride again I know it. I have to compile a list of all the items damaged and suspected of damage anyway. Ugh. I am off to bed now though. I feel like...how do they say....I was hit by a truck.
