Glad your "ok" I had a mild wreck a few months back. My bike faired better than yours and my body maybe worse?. The hardest part seemed to be the tear down process. I didnt even want to look at it. I started by gathering parts that I knew I needed. One day I went out to the garage and just got started. Finished about two weeks later. Good luck and take your time.

Glad you're OK Chef. Good to see that the paint and pipes are undamaged.

If the frame is bent it may be repairable, they make special machines for that. But if not getting back on the road only requires a new frame, which is not hard to find, and some time to swap over all your parts. You should be able to get back on the road in no time.

hey guys, thanks for all the well wishes. I AM sore today. softball size bruise with road rash on my right hip. little one on my right side. I believe thats the worst of it! I am going to be on the hunt for a new frame first. I just don't think I trust it. not to mention I am not yet sure of the laws here regarding accident and registration. I dont know if I am allowed to use a frame that has been in an accident or deemed totaled.

insurance has been very supportive so far. I have progressive, the other guy has USAA. when people with USAA want m/c insurance they are referred to progressive so they are familiar with each other. both my insurance agents and his have been very kind, informative, and clear with me so far. waiting for an agent to come out and assess damages. hoping this doesn't take long. I will keep you all posted as the process continues. as for now I am dreamily staring outside as its 67 and blue skies......sigh....wish I could be out riding. Plus side is I am getting more guitar work done.

Chef - hold on before you write that frame off. I'm sure your front end is toast but the frame may not be bent.

If they total your bike, it may get a "salvage" title reissued, but many times this is not done, especially if the owner buys the bike back.

For instance, my buddy got hit, he settled and was paid $4K for his "totaled" bike. He bought it back, put a new [GL] front end on, as well as other damaged parts, and he is back on the road. Hold tight and see what the offers are...

Yes,  hold on to it and wait.

When my Jeep got hit, they gave me quote for totaling it and taking it and another quote for me to keep the Jeep.

I took the money and kept and  fixed the jeep.

hey guys, talked with my insurance claims adjuster and they are totaling out the bike. Damage is "$4000 in parts". Its of course not actually that much but its going to be $1000-$1500 to fix on my end. Still waiting to hear back what my "buy back" offer will be. hoping to get enough back to buy the right replacement parts...ugh.

things I definitely need to get her back to the way she was.
-chromed stator cover (have not checked for stator/magneto damage inside)
-left engine guard bar (if I can't get a single I need a pair)
-front fender and stays
-left and right forks (not sure if they are bent of its just the fork tubes, but something definitely bent)
-left and right fork tubes
-left and right fork ears
-left K1 control
-front DID rim, tube, rim strip, spokes
-brake rotor? (have to test for true. it does not look warped at all though)
-K1 handlebars
-front brake lever
-right passenger peg L bracket
-right front and rear turn signals
-right rear turn signal bracket
-possibly triple trees....I see no cracks or bends but I am not sure how to test. I know the K1 upper triple is the hardest to come by, and am hoping that they are ok. any help in testing this out is appreciated

-frame....I think I just want to be safe and replace the frame. the neck does not look bent but it took a fast shock and surely it has weakened. I don't know how to test for it so I think the best route is to replace it. anyone have a spare frame within 250 miles of Savannah, GA that I can get for cheap?

that's my list so far. you have all seen my build and the polish that has gone into it so its going to be difficult to have to do some of that again not to mention painting new fork ears (so GLAD I kept a new can of my paint!). if anyone can help with parts or leads on parts that would be great. tomorrow I will be starting to source some parts from cmsnl, yamiya, NOS, OEM, ebay etc.

thanks again for all of the support. it hurts my heart to see my bike sitting in the garage. its been the clearest, most perfect weather we've had all year this week.....of course ;)

Haha tews....too funny  8)  None of my paint is scratched. Not even the ears....they are all bent to hell though and unusable.

Stevo that is correct. I did their chrome exchange where I sent in my cover and they sent me a chrome one. If you're willing to give up a cover I can do the same again to match my other engine covers. Shoot me a pm

I'm serious. That's not that bad of a price imo.... figure finding a new tank, side cover, ears, headlight bucket alone is 800 plus.. then primer and paint...

Oh I know it's not a bad price but all my painted stuff is still perfect. There's were miraculously no scratchs or dents to anything with paint.  I just need fork ears and will paint them like I did the everything else.

David Silvers has Both headlight ears in stock - repros for 39 bucks a piece, they also have fork tubes for 128 a piece.  There is a cut off for compatibility of the fork tubes somewhere around 1972 I think.  You might want to check that before getting tubes for a later model.

Fork tubes http://www.davidsilverspares.com/CB750K1-FOUR-1971/part_104640/

I have fork lowers if you need them. I know a guy locally that had at least the top triple tree hanging on the wall this summer.  He has always been VERY reasonable on price.  He has a ton of stuff.  Let me know if you want me to find out what he has and price.

Chef,

I have the ones off my build that I am not using, but I'm not sure if they will work year-wise with your bike.  They are NOT K7 ears, but I cannot remember which model I sourced them from so many years ago.  They are plated in black chrome.  If they will work on your project, I can send them your way.

Chef,

I also have a spare fender, but it is painted; I had to swap fenders when I swapped into a GL1000 front end.  The fender mounts have nice shiny chrome, but the fender itself will need to be media blasted and chrome plated if you want a stock look.

I believe the chrome has to be scuffed and/or primered or the paint won't stick. The fender is in amazing shape. Just need to media blast it and plate it.

thanks, unfortunately I think chroming will be more expensive that I want it to be. gonna try to find an old one to polish up like I did mine. if i get stuck in a rut I'll let you know though! :D
