Topic: Need input for Cafe Tank/Seat combo for my CB550K1

Fellas,

Any input as to what manufacture of cafe tank and seat I should put on my 1975 CB550K1?  I am looking to spend less than 1K and am comfortable in the welding department.  Also, any tips and tricks on battery/electronics relocation would be warmly welcomed.  Looking to commence on this project right after Xmas.

I would consider an aluminum tank and seat.  When polished, will not need paint.  Saves money and looks cool!!

I just bought this handmade metal seat on my CB550K2 project, he will make custom sizes too...

Then found these pre made pads as well...

Good input thus far.  I have been weighing the pros/cons on the following manufactures for my CB550

- Benjie's  (Low Quality, Fitment Issues, Heavy, High Price)  They do look good though.
- Glass From The Past "GFTP" (Only one tank listed for the CB550)
- Legendary (From what I have seen in photos,  I assess that their cafe seats do not accomodate relocation of the electronics - shallow hump)

Feel free to beat me up on the above and continue to provide recommendations.  Looking to pull the trigger on the purchase soon and want to make an informed decision.

RCC be aware his welds are snotty , rear cowl also- over time on mine they broke , took him 6 months to finish my stuff up for me after he got my 900 bucks, the way he makes the rear tank mounts IMO are janky

Indeed, I do (note: did) like the Roc City setup.  However, prior to pulling the trigger on this 1+ thousand dollar order, I sent the business owner at Roc City an email asking some very basic yet key questions prior to my purchase.  At any rate, I never did get a reply back from him.  I then picked up the phone and called Herm at Dime City.  Herm has stellar business acumen, provided experience based recommendations and lent his input on various courses of action with regards to my CB550 build.  Ubber excited to be soon receiving my "Legendary" Lyta Manx Sprint tank, "Legendary" Thruxton seat as well as the tubing, slugs, and mounting hardware necessary to get this project rolling.  Success in business comes from operating at "the speed of need".  Thanks to the above members for sharing your experiences.

Thanks for the PM, will be waiting. In regard to the Thruxton seat, I got it for my 550F. I really liked it and it mounted really easy with clips from home depot for 2 bucks..

good looking tank. Similar to the benelli mohave tank. Did the guys over at DSS recommend lining the tank? IMO I would pick up some of the redkote they sell also, Or see if they wont line It for you so you could possible get a warranty on it
