pipe smokers?
« on: December 16, 2012, 04:41:10 PM »
I recently got into pipe smoking ( tobacco  ;)). I was curious how many pipe smokers there are on here. The wife makes me smoke in the garage but thats where my bikes are so that works fine for me and they dont complain. I am still trying to figure out the purpose of all the different pipes and sorting through the different tobaccos.

So far I have tried about 5 different tobaccos. Woodlands, Royal Cavendish, Norseman, Crows, and what I assume is a "house tobacco" called Jasons Blend. My favorite is the Royal Cavendish and second is the Jasons Blend. I didnt see any apple flavored but I will look next time I go.

Yeah, I like corncob pipes the best...usually just whatever Cavendish from a good Tobacco shop, flavors?, vanilla and coffee have nice aroma and chicks often dig it.
If it works good, it looks good...

I smoked pipe for years. Mac Baren Navy cut was the nicest I ever tried, I stopped searching with that one, but any Mac Baren is good. It all boils down to your taste and preference.

Also Balkan Sobranie was great.

Gosh all this memories coming back to me :)

I smoke a pipe. I have a few dozen. Never really got into which one is better. Just like to try something different each time. its more of a fasion choice, which one i think looks the best depending on my mood. And for tobacco I have not really found any i hate. I usually just mooch off a friend when we smoke at the pub.  :) Its relaxing that it.

I like smoking hookah and I also carved myself a corn cob pipe this summer, works pretty good, I had to put a little mesh filter in the bottom but it definitely looks cool. Used an old stem off of a hookah so its got a cool look IMO.

I like. Whats too hot? Does the pipe burn? Is that why they make pipes out of briar.

Doesnt burn but if you smoke a few bowls in a row while the pipe is hot it can heat up and crack. Not really a bit deal with a corncob because you can just carve out a new one. I do think that is why they make them out of briar.

Once you brake the pipe in, the burning continues very slowly, but you shoud never refill hot pipe. Good rule is to never smoke the same pipe more than once a day. It helps the wood to "breathe" out the tar.

Corn pipes are softer and more like one season. Quality pipe will with bit of care last a lifetime.

I made several pipes from hard wood and they were not half bad if you knew how to smoke them.   But the best is to ask expert in special store for pipe to fit your lifestyle, temperment and such - makes an amazing difference in the end experience.

Its pretty easy to make one. Eat some corn, wash it, cut it to the size you want, then bake it in an oven for 4 hours or so at 200F. I just used a pocket knife to carve it out because it had a thin blade. Carve a hole in the side at the bottom of the bowl and bake again for 2 hours. then figure out your stem/mouthpiece and you've got yourself a corncob pipe
