Looks like Frank just broke at the line!
Or, at least, he didn't make the pass.

Here you go, I expected 2 bent valves, they are, intake about double clearance, ex twice that. Engine will still running,  I had to hit the kill button to stop it. Could have been so ugly.Oil all over leather pants leg rt side oil all over boot and tire, some inside boot! Valves not broken or dropped etc, just beat to #$%* I'm sure!, just bent. I'm investigating a little rt now,  ain't she beautiful!  Lol,  Bill

Billy, That's ugly!  :(
Broke the cylinder too!  :'(
Is that a cam chain or primary link?
Never mind. Has to be primary if it was still running.

I can't see how a primary drive failure would lead to a broken rod, unless the motor revs soared to astronomical heights with no load or RPM limiter?? If a piston disintegrated, I could see where the small end of the rod might have rattled around the bore and jammed, snapping the rod. My guess is broken debris from the piston or rod then jammed between the primary chain and sprockets..
Awaiting the autopsy report. :(

Alright guys, I'm going to just tell it like it went down. That bike was knocking when Bill pulled into the lanes. I was towards the front of staging and could plainly hear the noise. Bill had his helmet on when he rode up so I assumed he couldn't hear the sound. I initially hesitated to Sa anything but went over and politely let him know what I hear and that I felt it was a rod knock. He commenced to tell me about the new APE crank, new Carrillos and new rod bearing.  After a few minutes of discussion, Bill admitted he heard the noise in the pits but was adamant it was a top in noise due to loose valve adjustment. He went on . I didn't agree with his assessment and decided it best to walk away knowing from experience that the rod would probably let go very soon. Bill was behind me in line. I made my pass and then heard someone had oiled down the track begin me... And you now know the rest of the story. My guess is old wrist pins were used, one broken and destroyed a perfectly good motor when it could have been avoided by parking the bike to begin with.

I'm out!!!!!

In the semi finals of super eliminator, I screwed up and forgot which bike I was riding and threw the clutch lever away. The bike bogged and didn't recover--shut off. I was ticked at myself for a second because I didn't make my between round mental adjustment. I was running 3 different bikes in 4 classes but that's no excuse. I simply had a brain fart. I rolled the bike back off the line and into the street ET lanes for the next round. As luck would have it, I pushed the tree in street and redlighted. They ended the race after that round and will finish it today.

+1.

I suggested to Bill yesterday, that he better be real suspect of any parts from that motor.
Much better off starting with fresh parts IMHO.

Yep, except after thinking about it, I think I used new tapered lightweight  wrist pins, but not 100% sure. Wish I had cranked it in the lane, I would probably have made a better decision. My assessment of it not coming from bottom end was true, I think, the rod on big end is fine, but maybe old piston broke, perhaps nicked a valve, started it all. I told Frank I might have used the old pins, but don't think I did, all I can say come April them records are both being broken,  c'mon anyone! Lol,  Bill
Wanna say, without Frank's mentoring I wouldn't be where I am, thank teach, but I hope you taught me well, cause we going have even more fun next year!
