Sorry we didn't make it to  see you. After a long , hot day of racing, we went back to the hotel to rest. I had hoped to leave early but didn't depart the room until after 8:30am. We had an opportunity to pick the granddaughter up on the way home so I didn't want to waste any time getting down the highway. I'll PM you at some point by this weekend with my thoughts.

Thanks again for the CD. I didn't get a chance to open it yet. Did you get many pictures on saturday?

Had my onboard hard lined in for my ZX10, but it had a full operational charging system.  I wouldn't do that for a bike with a total loss system personally. I use a nitrogen tank to fill ours between rounds. $12 exchange on the tank.

I'm just happy to see the air shifter working correctly. Time for you to get one installed my friend. Along with a set of flat bars, stiffer front end, lowered suspension and a longer arm. And don't forget re-gearing it. Proper gearing will making it easier to launch and save clutches since you won't have to slide it as long to get the bike moving. Just pick what you believe is the most important thing on that list and get it done first. I know your time is limited.

Thanks to FRANK for showing the wrench spinner the RIGHT WAY to hook up a air shifter ...... saved another broken engine but you should split the cases to look at those stock shift forks that were being over loaded.  Hint: start your bike when you are NEXT OUT TO the line, unless the temp is 30-40 degrees = MEMPHIS was 100-108 in the lanes.

Bill, don't forget the side to side the middle burnout. Use about 16-18 lbs in the tire. Adjust the shocks to the softest position first to see how the bike squats. Be sure to get Donnie to record the launch so you can evaluate what's actually happening to the rear suspension and the front end when you leave the line. There's absolutely no reason an Sohc should be spinning off the line using a Shinko Hookup tire. If its a U soft tire, ditch it for the Hookup immediately. Your lower ET will be the results of how well you get that bike to move the first 60'. Clutch/ throttle management also plays a big part. Until you get it all figured out, Do Not throw the lever away but slide it out and lock  throttle as soon as the bike moves. It won't hurt to run through the clutches until you get comfortable with the package.

If the video shows the bike squating too much, then stiffen the springs all the way up. Personally, I prefer to have an old, heavy bike squat hard. Be aware of that fender. I see it in the position to hit the tire and get turn off. It's an accident looking for a place to happen. No doubt in my mind!!!!!

I noticed you didn't have your feet on the rear pegs when you were at the line in Chrissy's photos. In fact, it seems those pegs are now to high for you to even use them to launch the bike. Did DME raise them up for some reason?? Not saying you can't leave the line flat footed successfully, but being secure in the saddle, body leaning forward and feet braced will allow better control of the bike. Your hands and arms don't have a chance to slip off the bars and if the bike wheelies or fishtails, its easier to gather it back up. Again, just my opinion based on my own personal experiences and observations of others.

I finally started to understand this at Memphis. Dumping the clutch was causing bogging or wheelies or both. I lowered my launch RPMs, and as soon as the bike starts to move I ramp up the throttle while letting off the clutch to hold RPMs steady. My launches were more controlled as I concentrated more and more on thoroughly abusing the clutch.  :o  Friction disks are cheap, and I'll change them at the track if necessary.  ;)

I predict more consistent launches in my future.  8)

That technique is even more important on a short wheelbase bike. The shorter it is, the closer to stock it looks, the more you'll need to manage the clutch lever. Wilbur, you really need to get the gear ratio raised so the bike leaves with less effort and hits 5th before the traps. I'd concentrate on this mod first. Next I'd put flat bars on the bike and then lower the whole thing. You aren't trying to make the bike comfortable to ride cross country but you want to suitably set up for hard launches in a forward body position.

. Good post ..a long time ago i heard, get the revs near max power, then feed out the clutch as fast as you can without spinning or wheelying more than a few inches...as long as your hand is still on the clutch, you can back off throttle or start slipping the clutch again.
 If you dump the clutch and you wheely or bog, you usually lost that round..

Thanks, I  guess I was experimenting. I'll try and launch off pegs next time out.DME  didn't move them, they're still mounted to the bottom of the triangles. So should work fine, feet already touching makes more sense than having to find them, thanks, Bill

What works for some, may nit work for others. Keep experimenting until you find what works best for Bill. You're the only one sitting in the seat of that bike when the rpms are up and the tree is coming down.

I agree, but this does work, yeah, no more draining tanks, off a 2008 CBR1000R!

Well, sorta.  First pass dialed 10.80, ran 10.802! Won rd one, beat Track champion from last year. ..I owed him one, I red lighted against him in the finals a couple years ago. Got bye run 2nd or 3rd round,  ran 1.6's except for my new pb 1.591! Lol Launched off the rear pegs, ran 10.70 and chopped the throttle and lost in the semi's!  Jimmy is in the final! Five passes total, all in the 10's several 6.8 1/8's! 8.9 1000th etc, wow what a fun day! Ran 103.xx in 1/8! I'm tired, but happy!
