I am in the process on assembling my motor's bottom end(1975 FO), and need input on the correct gear orientation of the final drive gear(48T) for the countershaft. Hondaman's book says to be careful with the last 2 gears on the countershaft, as the base circle of the final drive gear will rub on the lower gear(47T)that has the bushing, next to it. I have tried the gear both ways, and don't see where it rubs anywhere. I can tell by wear marks where the lower gear fits, I believe, but the final gear is harder to read. The center of the gear has a deeper offset on one side, than the other. Anyone know which way to tell how this gear goes on the countershaft? I hope this question is understandable.
