Need to know month and year of manufacture of my 1970 CB750
« on: December 17, 2012, 07:37:46 AM »
My 1970 750 is also missing the vin plate on the neck.   The vin # is stamped on the neck but the plate is missing on the right side of the neck.  I want to order a replacement vin plate but do not know the month and year of manufacture.   The frame vin # is:  CB750-1002930.
Is there a resource anyone can point me to to determine month and year of manufactture based on this vin# ?   I think its going to be in the latter part of 1969 but so far have not found out conclusively.  Perhaps a K0 owner with a number that is close can share there month and year?

Any assistance will be most appreciated.  Stickman

I would say that number is a May or June 1969. Check the engine number too, you may have a very interesting CB750 there. I understand the very early ones did not have a VIN plate.  These guys http://cb750sandcastonly.com/smf_forum/index.php will have the info. Cliff.

Definitely a Sandcast frame. Pretty sure that VIN did not have a riveted VIN Number tag. It would have had an adhesive only non dated tag.

Excellent info: http://cb750sandcastonly.com/smf_forum/index.php?topic=658.0

Curious, what is the engine number?

Thanks guys,  The more I learn the more confused I get.  Here is what I know.

I have a Tenn title with the vin# of:  CB7501002930  year showing 1970.

This same vin# CB7501002930 is stamped in the neck of the frame on the right side not the usual left side.  There is no vin tag anywhere on the neck.

The engine number is:  CB750E-1021915

Over 42 years anything is possible with the history of this bike.  I only have personal knowledge for approx. 1 year.  It would appear that I indeed do have a vin # that suggests it was manufactured in 1969 and  an engine number that is a 70 model and a title that has it titled as a 1970 model.  I am no expert but the engine appears to be a non sand cast engine.  Here are some photos made recently.

My original plan was to have a vin tag made up and mount it in the conventional location  on the right side.  Now I'm not sure if this model came with a vin tag.

Do I have a 1970 model  that was manuf. in 69 and titled a 70 and should I even be concerned with the vin tag?

Is it just me, or do those numbers stamped in the frame look smaller than normal ?
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

VIN= I think the # should also have cb750k in front of those numbers. I don't think  they were any different on the sandy's, but could have the K deleted.
They all were cb7501002930... I don't see the CB750 it should be stamped just as deep and obvious as part of the number!!!

I would venture to say the engine is a mid to late model 70 engine!!

You should KNOW NC license process by now, If I were you "" DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT"""

??? They do to me too.  If it is a real sandcast the tag on the other side would not have the VIN.  I have seen sandcasts titled as 1970 because that's when they were sold but they were all built between June and September, 1969.

Is it possible that VIN number was assigned by a state and not Honda? I have seen that before...

Excellent question!  Left would indicate early sandcast.  If I were a betting man (and I am) I would bet that it's right hand.

Looks to be re stamped..On most frames the stamp area is flat, not sure about the early ones. If you see the flat, sand it off carefully..hope its not welded over.
Check for brake pedal stop bracket near right rear engine bolt/oil line area. If it has that the frame is actually newer than your motor.
Youdo have reggie, so just ride it.
