Planet Blue Metallic Color Scan Results
« on: December 18, 2012, 01:05:54 PM »
Had a free chance today to run down to the paint shop and have my mint left side cover scanned. Turns out I can get it matched using the same paint my Dad’s body shop uses. Funny thing is they are using a Majestic blue on a 94 Subaru to start with,,, Scarry. The plan is to pick up one left side cover or a pair, if I have to, and have them painted to keep the factory look. I’m going to reinstall the factory emblems as well.

Here is the paint scan results if anyone is interested

That's an awesome Honda color glad you got it matched....Is that how much a pint of a custom mix totals to? Mmmm... love the smell of Dupont Chromabase in the morning  ;)

The pint costs around $40-50 I think retail. Not sure to be honest. Its way less than some that's for sure. The pint is enough to do two side panels with a little bit left over.

let us know the accuracy once its on the bike.  If you just paint the side cover I wonder if it will stick out?

Been looking for this paint code/formula for sometime. You are the first person that has come up with something that I am aware of. When I took my tank to a paint/body shop they said it was too faded to get a good scan. Since I am at the stage in my restore of a 75 750k to paint the tank and side covers I am very interested in knowing how this formula worked out. Pics are always good also.  Thanks for sharing, Mark

This is the stock all original side cover I had scanned so it should be really close. In my experience it should be fairly close, maybe a shade off at most.

Ordering new side covers today so I should have them painted in January some time. Ill post pics of them so everyone can see.

I'm looking for paint to my bike. Restore it how it looked like from the beginning. CB750 K6-1976
Planet blue look a little bit too dark when i find photos on Internet.

Here a bad old photo but the blue color very visible. -Is this really Planet blue metallic?

PeWe, the 750 K6 was produced in Candy Sapphire Blue and looks to be the color of your bike. The Candy Sapphire Blue wasn't sold in the USA market and here’s a few examples from the UK:

Sapphire Blue was a Trail 70 KO model Blue that is a awesome color. This was the last Trail 70 I restored for a customer in Sapphire Blue. This paint shot shows a inside and outside in the sunshine of the paint color 1 day old...
This particular bike, when I finished it came in 1st place at the
Vintage Japenese Motocycle Show in Lincoln, NE at the Lancaster Center 2 years ago...
Thought I would share because of the colors in the thread..on the Blue
Sorry for the thread jack  :-[

Dream750, thanks a lot for your answer :)
I saw that color somewhere... The sites selling paint do not have Candy Sapphire Blue when searching on K6, mostly Antares red and Planet blue metallic . My bike is sold in Europe, frame no: 257950x.
Candy means trickier to paint for me. I have thoughts about buying a cheap tent and paint inside that in coming spring.
I have seen a label and stipe set at cbdecals.com  http://www.cbdecals.afegraphics.com/view_product.php?adminshopping=&product=76cb750k-FullKit-H3545

Man, did those prices just go up?  I thought they were around 70 bucks, or is there another distributor?

Got a 1/2 pint of paint yesterday for $27! Ends up being about a pint sprayable which is plenty for the two side covers. Should have them back from Dad soon. Cant wait to see them!!!!
Ill be sure and post plenty of comparison pictures as well.

I've always thought that one of the big hurdles to matching is  the translucence of the paint, and the primer's influence on it, and the consistency of the flake. I can't wait to see if it's possible to achieve a match with a basecoat/clearcoat system

Well here is the results. The extremely well perserved OG oil bag side cover vs the color matched fuse box cover. What yal think?

Ill get better pictures of the bike the next sunny day this week. To me its so close you cant tell unless you really look hard.

By the way anyone have a idea how many planet blue 750's were made?

Here is a pic of the complete bike too. Original paint on tank and side cover in this one:

Racinchase:  How that looks like a great match to me.  Its nice to know we have a
reasonable match for the planet blue in a modern day paint formula.

Thanks much for sharing.  Stickman
