Not getting on you at all, but you should have asked for insurance if you wanted it, just like when you buy on Ebay you can click a box if you want to add insurance to your order.

Good to know if I ever buy something from you. Insurance is standard when I ship something its not to protect to the buyer, its to protect both the seller and the buyer. if this was an ebay deal I would have had my money back by now. It cost an extra dollar or two, it isn't the end of the world. there is an unspoken rule among people who like to do things the right way. cover yourself when you ship it, don't "cover the buyer".

I do things the right way, do what the customer says, #1 thing in pleasing a customer, and obviously there must of been a lack of communication between you and luap, maybe you should of asked him to ship via ups or fed ex.  You didn't specify, you just assumed he would use ups?

Insurance isn't standard with usps, its an option, just like gift wrapping or tracking.  Live and learn.

My 2 cents. Like was said, shipping is up to him. Your estimate doesnt mean anything. If he had put it in a huge box that cost an extra 25 buck you would not have paid the difference I assume so in my mind that is a moot point. The obvious issue is he did a #$%*ty job of packing it. Period. He owes you your money back and gets his tank back. if not that, then he owes you some money to get the dent pulled. I would not be willing to have my name here ruined over a 100 dollar tank.

Terry, please read what I just posted. Insurance is not something I should be asking for. its a common courtesy option that the seller should always do. I do. thank you for letting me know if I ever have to buy something from you that you are not courteous enough to cover yourself and me in the transaction. its not just for the buyer. it's for both of us. you may be right about the lesson, it is noted now.

I would also like to add that when the thread first started and luap posted, NOBODY seemed to be taking his side on the issue. go back and read, pretty much everyone seems to be telling him he is screwed, even tews19 mentioned he has a similar case and he ended up out the money but his "name" was worth more. do you not take pride in your self, even over a virtual interspace? now all of a sudden I am getting flamed because I got a dented tank, and want a refund? I did nothing wrong, and he STILL has not contacted me or piped up in this thread. Paul may be a nice guy, he may be a great guy, and this at this point this thread is not debating that. what it IS debating, however, is that he messed up by not packing it correctly, and now is not in contact with me about reparations. that supersedes all.

the only thing I have learned hear to is be more careful with some of you on this site, and to NEVER use paypal gift as an option again. if I used regular paypal "goods and services" I would have my money back and the tank would have been back in his possession.

Mate, I read what you posted AFTER Goofy and I questioned your own ethics for not ponying up the dough for insurance.

If I read between your overly verbose "I'm an innocent victim, please feel sorry for me and take my side, blah blah blah" posts, the bottom line is you were so cheap you beat him down to a Walmart price, then expected a Rolls Royce service, and now you're bleating because Postman Pat used your tank for a footstool, and because you cheaped out on insurance, now you feel the need to shame Luap into refunding your money.

I have little or no respect for members here who use this forum as a vehicle for bashing other members over deals gone bad. I've had one bad experience buying an item from a well respected forum member, but we were both adult enough to keep it between ourselves, without asking other forum members to take sides. If the pic in your avatar is you, then I can see that you're quite young, and need to do some growing up. Man up and get over it, every one of your posts makes you look that much more like a whiney little girl. ::)

I've seen a few go on Evilbay for 200+ dollars and well I'm a cheap SOB....

SO I had to fix the one I had....

Nice work Joe, I've got a stud welder and I've used it on tanks before, but you need to be careful, the studs melt the steel under them, so once you've pulled the dent and ground the studs off, you've only got a tiny amount of steel between you and the gasoline.

I have actaully twisted the studs off and pulled that paper thin piece of steel out and had to then dent it in a tad and fill it with braze, then seal the tank internally. A safer way to go is to cut a decent sized hole out of the bottom and push the dent out, then weld the piece back in the bottom. Stud welders are great for pulling dents in car fenders, but not so good for tanks. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I have watched this thread and Chefs thread. I have dealt with both people. Luap was awesome in regard to him sending me a gasket I needed for my 550 carbs. He sent them free and paid the 45 cent shipping.

I have sold a few parts to Chef and sent them. With one issue, the box was cut open and part taken, all transactions have gone well. With the open box, missing wire harness I refunded him his money asap.

I had an issue with fork tubes and an early 750 brake caliper unit become lost. I didn't insure. I took it on myself to either refund the person their money or send them replacement parts. He opted for replacement. I lost my ass on the deal. But I wanted my name to be in the "good". I am sure Luap and Chef can come to an arrangement. Both are classy people from my dealings.

Where is Kghost, I haven't seen him around in ages? He sent me an F2 tank all the way from Texas a few years ago, and even though the packaging was minimal, it's one of the few that have arrived with no new dents in it! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I'm a noob on this site but not to life, selling and shipping etc.
As any other website/forum I frequent, I like to purchase things from other enthusiasts vs. companies.
Today, by reading this thread, I have definitely learned who I will never have any dealings with.

Chef, sorry this has happened bro! Hope fully you'll get a resolution or get it fixed.

Yeah mate, he was a commercial small aircraft pilot in the US, so that might be what he's doing, but I know that kind of work is hard to find here, I've got two friends who are both qualified commercial pilots who can't get work flying planes, and they tell me that's common. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well i thought Luap may have made an appearance here today as he was logged in for a while this morning {Aussie time}.
He was checking out his cafe hoop thread, it seems he is trying to still do business here by stealth...? If he is avoiding this thread,  which he started, then i would NOT do business with him until this is resolved......

I have collected so many dented tanks that I have no reason to have idle hands.

I need to do pick of a wrench that I use, it is offset by two inched on each end which gives it a snakey ability to whack on the dent through the gas cap.  Only so much it can reach.

Other than that I found a something at the shop that is a t shape. The top of the T is curved in the right direction (I guess I could flip it the WRONG way) but the hole on the end fits through the slide hammer and I used it to pull dents exactly like these out from the top without serious bites in the top.

Maybe you can just fix it yourself and forgive the shipper and/or  our sometimes less than perfect USPS.

Slide hammers should be kept away from gas tanks, as they tend to turn low spots into high spots, which are much harder to repair.

I bought a doo-hickey for my pin welder which grabs each pin and levers out the dent, as opposed to pulling it out sharply, so the operator can pull a little here and a little there without turning a dent into a high spot, and without stretching the metal.

Slide hammers are not so much a problem on car fenders that can be tapped back down with a dolly behind the panel, but not so great for bike tanks. Cheers, Terry. ;D
