ignition coil recommendations (from across the pond)?
« on: February 05, 2013, 12:31:24 AM »
Hi,
Need to replace1/4 coil on the CB400 as very corroded and wire broke while cleaning it up.
Any recommendations?
There are used (4bits etc) or DS after market or should I go for something a bit more 'modern' (Dyna etc).
Above all I want something that does the job with ease and is reliable - it doesn't have to be original. And obviously I might have to buy a pair if not going for used.
Thanks
Andrew

I went with Dyna coils and replaced the caps with NGK 5 ohms. Works great with my HM ignition unit, and the plug wires of course become replaceable with the switch from stock coils.

I went with Dyna DC8-1 5 Ohm coils, Dyna wires and NGK caps with no resistance on my CB500:

coils: http://www.z1enterprises.com/ListItems.aspx?keywords=DYDC8-1

wires: http://www.z1enterprises.com/ListItems.aspx?keywords=DYDW200

1+ 4 caps: http://www.z1enterprises.com/ListItems.aspx?keywords=TU38-1006

2+3 caps: http://www.z1enterprises.com/ListItems.aspx?keywords=TU38-1008

For both coils, wires and 4 caps ran me about $150
