Attach one of these and 99.9% of the people that see your bike will never know.

On a serious note I'd like to see an old catalog as well, it would be cool if they end up being genuine.

you've got a mostly stock 400F that you want to cafe?  :'(

It was already a CAFE from the factory. ::)

I think not

What a useful and visually interesting combination of purple shaded rectangles! Is this like one of those 3D pictures where you have to stare at it blank-faced, and slack-jawed until the relevance to the original post appears?

Yes!

How do you get lost in the 202 anyway? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hay Forget all the BS. It's your bike. Do you what you want with it. The Cafe thing might be a fad to some, but some of us have been doing this for years and years.

Yes that is a very hard to find Exhaust. I have the Yosh for CB750 SOHC on my bike. I have only seen one other in person close up.
Be happy!.

The current Cafe interest, I think, may be American thing, not least helped by the Cafe Racer TV series's.  It's been popular in the UK since the 1950's, and Japanese riders have been into the classic Brit bikes for ages.

Yoshi or not, it's a nice looking bit of kit weighing in at 3.4Kg.  I am advised on another forum that the stock system weighs 6.8Kg.

Regardless of who made it, it is a great looking pipe.

Would like to see those old Yoshi brochures...

These Triple A pipes don't look like mine at all.  It's good fun trying to find out though ;)

They are similar though, maybe the 400 pipes were slightly different shape...?

The Triple A end can is tapered.  Mine is the same width throughout its length.  I have emailed Yoshimura asking if they recognise my pipes.

A quick bit more web searching and here are a couple more examples of this exhaust, both calling it Yoshi too…

How many more are needed before it is confirmed?

I still can’t find an old 1970s/80s pic of a 400f one that is styled like the ones they make nowdays. Maybe those were badged “Pops Y”  as kinda suggested – Yoshimura used to manufacture in Japan, Europe and the US so did they use different branding for different markets? Yoshi pistons were branded “Pops Y      Japan”, but I always assumed that was just for space reasons.

Also, has anyone got an account that enable them to access the following one? I‘d be interested to read it but can’t register from here.

Finally, in case anyone else is getting bored with this, an entertaining bike theft story

The older Yoshi pipes had the same header arrangement as the Newer pipe but the tail pipe was one curved piece, the new ones are cut and shut at the tailpipe, so they are not really the same as the early Yoshi. I've seen many Yoshi pipes since the late 70's and all had Yoshimura either on a plate riveted onto the pipe or pressed into the pipe, another thing that makes me doubt the pipe,  is that its not "tuned length", as far as i know all Yoshi's had same length header pipes. PM Mark @M3 Racing {member name kos} he is an expert on racing Honda's and has said they are not Yoshi, it would be good to hear his explanation....  Still don't mind being wrong, they just look all wrong for a yoshi pipe..... ;)

I suppose the good thing about that pipe is that it'd double for a right hand side crash bar, side stand, etc............ ;D

Yeah Mick, it doesn't look like anything else that Yoshi made back in the day, but who knows? The 400/4 wasn't anything but a girls bike in Oz, and girls didn't put Yoshi pipes on their bikes, but in Britain the 400/4 was very popular, (their roads were built by the Romans, so not wide enough for proper bikes, like CB750's..........) so who knows? Maybe Pops was experimenting with LSD? Cheers, Terry. ;D

What cc is the Bike? Why would it have a Yoshi exhaust unless it had a Yoshi big bore kit in it? Looks suspiciously like a homemade job to me! The back end / silencer looks suspiciously like a Piper exhaust with homemade header pipes welded on ,then the whole lot painted black! Though I have to confess I only saw a Yoshi pipe on a 400 four once and it was many many years ago! Why chop the bike up when its such good condition? Define Cafe racer conversion! Racing drop bars and Cafe racer seat?

Saying this, I seem to remember on the Yoshi exhaust I saw many years ago ,the down pipes did  seem to cross over one another in the same manner these pipes seem to! :-\

The exhaust was painted black when I bought the bike.  I had it bead blasted and powder coated.  There was no obvious signs that he had been chromed in the past, although a chrome finish could have been removed before being painted.  No way does it look like a home made lash-up.  The exhaust is superbly fabricated and the bends fashioned expertly.  The welds are extremely neat.
