Okay, I want to get in on this. Most expensive I have purchased was Glen Levvitt (surely mis-spelled), Have tried woodford, have a bottle and 1/2 of Johnny walker black. If I want something to mix with tea I use the honey versions that all the common names produce. I just want to be cool and fit in.

Yeah Terry...let's not my old favorite Jimmy Beam...so cheap, but pretty damn good bourbon...if you have not, try the Jim Beam Rye, it is good.
If it works good, it looks good...

Yeah mate, that JBR has graced my lips on more than one occasion, good stuff. Over here, only chicks and queers drink Southern Comfort, which is a shame, because I don't mind it either, but obviously can't drink it due to my manly nature. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I've been toying with the idea of making some home brew but I'm worried the neighbors might think I'm cooking some meth and call the authorities.

I built my own still Don, but threw it in the trash when I discovered that if the temps are out by only a few degrees I'd be making poison rather than whisk(e)y. A friend of mine's brother made his own whisk(e)y and died at 55, and was slowly going blind before he passed. No-one put 2 and 2 together until after he died.

Terry, this is not worth arguing about, but there is actually no danger in destilling your own. Methanol is a by-product of fermentation; more methanol is produced in fruit fermentation than in grains. Brewers do not remove the methanol in beer and wine because methanol is not especially toxic at low concentrations. You are looking at between 0.4%-1% methanol in wines and brandies and smaller amounts in beers. Distillers remove almost all the methanol in most cases. Ever notice how vodka produces clean hangovers and wines (particularly reds) give you very nasty hangovers? Methanol. That, and dehydration!

Methanol is an especially nasty type of alcohol because the body tries to break it down the same way it metabolizes, or breaks down, ethanol, the type of alcohol in beer, wine and other drinks. Metabolizing ethanol produces chemicals less toxic to the body than alcohol. Unfortunately, if the same chemical action is performed on methanol the result is formic acid, lactic acid and formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde attacks nerve cells, especially the optic nerve and can damage the liver and kidneys. Formic acid and lactic acid also attack the kidneys and liver. Most people who have drunk methanol die of severe and sudden kidney and liver failure.

Chronic methanol drinking will cause optical damage. The stories of moonshine causing blindness comes from U.S. prohibition times where some bootleggers used to cut moonshine with methylated spirits to increase profit.

My country just went through this - over twenty people died due to booze maker who cut the alcohol with industrial methylalcohol.

Fair enough mate, but I'm no chemist, so I'd rather be safe than sorry. Or blind, or dead. Plus I'm lazy, so I'd rather spend a few extra bucks and buy some that an expert has made, hopefully without any dangerous chemicals. Cheers, Terry. ;D

You have done well Grasshopper. Woodford is a fine bottle. I would suggest you try some Makers Mark, it is all wheat and corn with no rye mixed in. It is quite smooth and can be nicely sipped with just some ice cubes.
Buffalo Trace is very affordable and also quite nice.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

+1 on the Buffalo trace Bobby, (Makers is a given, of course) as that hasn't been mentioned yet! Cheers, Terry. ;D

The last time I threw up from drinking was from a beer dinner. It was one of those 8 course dinners and each course was accompanied by a different glass of beer. There was a brewer that would get up and tell all of us what the bla bla monks made this with honey from beehives bla bla....great dinner.

Next morning I was up at 5am to walk the dogs and my whole body got hot, head sweating...took 10 steps outside into the cool morning and BBLLLAAACH! Duck ala Orange all over the patio. It was at that point I decided to NEVER pay $80 for a dinner again.

I also dont see the grocery store as being a food store but the thought goes through my head "Everything in this place is just going to get turned into poop".

As a public service to all reading this. If you have a friend that is so messed up he or she will probably puke. Turn them onto their side and make sure they stay that way. This way of they puke it will not aspirate into the lungs by accident.

If you don't like this person leave them on their back and go about your business. ;D ;D ;D ;D
