LETS DRINK SOME WHISKEY and WHISKY (and rum)!!!! proper
« on: December 25, 2012, 07:01:25 PM »
Ok boys. I have been polluting some other very decent threads lately with my whiskey talk. First off- I want to be honest in the fact that I dont know nor have I tried all whiskey. I am currently drinking Yukon Jack and have been raising a glass a few times every night. My plan is to try new whiskeys until I have made it to Johnny Walker Blue. (was told that was the best?)

What do you drink and how do you drink it?

As stated above I am currently drinking Yukon Jack. I am drinking it at room temp from a snifter style glass. no ice.

what chu got?

FIRST

Yukon Jack - Sweet stuff. This was my introduction to whiskey. Early on it was new, sweet and exciting...now I cant finish the bottle.
Bye Bye Yukon ...

NEXT

Woodford Reserve- Holy Crow! My mouth is watering. I feel like an adult. Great stuff, worth every penny.
Bye Bye Woodford...

MY NEW DRINK!!!

Currently I have Makers Mark and Bookers. Just finished my Wild Turkey 101. This batch of Bookers is 130.1 proof. Not blended or watered to a regular proof but bottled from the barrel.

Good whiskey is best consumed on ice by sipping and enjoying. OK whiskey can be mixed. Less than OK whiskey.... doesn't matter just get it down.

I almost cried when I saw that turkey throw perfectly good booze on the floor, what a wanker........  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Whiskey vs. whisky
The difference between whiskey and whisky is simple, Whisky usually denotes Scotch whisky  and whiskey denotes the Irish and American beverages.

Good to know, I always wondered that. Though the bottle of Makers Mark that Santa brought me last night doesn't agree.

A few ounces of Crown Royal (Canadian Whiskey) with just less than a teaspoon of sugar fully dissolved into it at room temp and then poured over a couple ice cubes in a tumbler.

Bulleit Rye and Woodford Reserve are my current choices for bourbons.... however if it's Scotch, I love the Macallans 12 yr.

I have a quarter cask Laphroaig that I'm fond of right now, although The Balvenie is also fantastic, just completely different.  The best I've had was a bottle of Ardbeg Supernova I splurged on once.

If you like Canadian whiskey, try Forty Creek.  It's a nice step up from Canadian Club.

And scotch is best had either neat or with a few drops of spring water.  Ice waters it down.  I have a set of soapstones that can be tossed in the freezer and then in your scotch if you'd like it cooled but not watered.

WOW. I like the added sugar technique. This Yukon Jack is so frigging sweet to begin with though. FYI the bottle of Johnny walker blue that I was referencing is something that my buddy has. I have been a beer only guy for a long time....then I tried Johnny Walker Black and....it clicked. this. is. goooood.
As if beer is for working and whiskey is for relaxing.

Thanks for all the great info boys.

whisky vs whiskey? I had no idea.
