SL350 for the next project?????
« on: December 26, 2012, 03:47:12 PM »
Just looking to bounce a idea off everyone. I'm nearing completion of my CB750k project and don't really have anything else lined up. Found out dad rode a SL's as a kid and my Mom did too. Ive been wanting to do a street/gravel road bike for a few years and a SL350 seems to be the best fit.
Question is how hard are parts to come by? I know the CB's have a ton of aftermarket support but I'm unsure of the SL's. I know they are way harder to find so is there any alternatives anyone has built??
Thanks!!

I had an SL recently, after getting it running the kick start gears self-destructed on the third test ride. Somewhat of a common problem, parts were readily available but the repair required splitting the cases and I was quite disappointed so I sold the bike as is.  Still made a couple dollars but I had planned on flipping it for minimum 1000 profit.  The most difficult part to obtain is the original exhaust, one in good condition commands a tidy sum...Larry

I had an SL175 as a kid that I still miss.

I've been thinking about about finding a CL350 as a commuter bike. I always liked the scrambler look a bit more than the MX look.

I the SL's, would be a fun project. There are tons of parts on eBay. Consider a CL too, same motor, right Larry?

Here's a nice SL...

The CL had electric start and the SL was kick only.  Top end probably interchangeable but lower was different...Larry

I have one so I am curious to see what you build. the SL was made for 3? years??during those years there were differences in the cam and I want to say electric start was added but am not sure. Like was already stated, exhaust pipes are damn near impossible to get.

The Honda SL's were great bikes, but only made for 3 or 4 years I think so there much harder to fined than our CB750's. Never had a SL350, but did have it's little brother a 1971 SL175. This little bike was a blast to ride on and off the road. This is another one of my Honda's I had gowing up that now 40 years later I wish I had held on to.

Racin, good luck on your hunt for a SL350. It would be a great project ;)
