cb550f into a cb400f?
« on: December 26, 2012, 04:31:29 PM »
hi i have a '75 cb400f that im turning into a cafe racer but the engine is incomplete, so ive been looking around ebay and it seems easier only slightly to get my hands on a cb550f engine so im just wondering if it will fit in the cb400f frame with no/very little mods?

cheers

I wouldn`t have thought so! Frames are different are they not? Would be very difficult I would have said! You have two shafts at the back of the 400 four engine ,one for the S/arm and the other for the foot pegs, which go through the engine if my memory serves me correctly. I doubt they would line up the 550 engine! I could be wrong! Not had any experience with the 550 so I might be talking through my hat!

It won't fit, I measured one up ages back & the 550 engine is just too big (tho I guess with a lot of cutting & welding it's not completely impossible). What bits are you missing from your engine?
