Thankfully there's nothing like that on my qjet. Or at least I don't think there is.

I'd like to just plain swap out the qjet with like a holley or something, but qjet is the best for MPGs.

What do you think about the computer controlled carbs? Specifically the qjet.

vacuum secondary Holleys are a biotch too, the mechanical secondary Holleys ain't gonna go good with stock cam and heads and your mileage will suck...I like my Edelbrock performer carb, a tuned up Q-jet is the #$%* though for stock and mild motors 'cuz it's got small primary's and big secondaries...read putt around for good mileage and crispy throttle response, stick your foot in it and have 850 cfm
If it works good, it looks good...

Yeah that's what I read. Just gotta wait for my manual so I can figure this damn thing out. It might even be as simple as bad gas. Not sure how long it sat with the current tank, but I had also put some fuel system cleaner in there (it helped, top speed went from 35 to 45), but that still may be part of the issue, especially since the tank is getting lower, probably like 1/3 tank left.

Still gonna tear it apart and go through it again though.

check the choke pull off hasnt jammed which prevents the secondry air valve opening,,the primaries have the choke plate, the choke looking thing over the secondries is an air valve,as rpm increases and the foot is down it opens up allowing air to flow and also raises a pair of needles in the secondry jets, with the choke off you should be able to operate that valve with your finger,if its not opening youll have bugger all power, sadly these get tampered with and the rods and levers bent, you should be able to google some qjet tips.

I checked with a forum and my choke and secondary lockout cam assemblies are assembled and operating correctly.

Anyway, gonna see if I can make it to the gas station down the road if my brakes are operating properly.

itll more than likely come good with a strip and thorough clean, dont forget to go through the dissy, the gm hei is good, just check the advance mech and the vacuum advance can, suck on its hose and check the dissy plate moves and the can dosent leak.

I did do a thorough strip and clean (I learned that from here haha). Replaced the distributor cap/rotor, plug wires, and plugs. I'll check the vacuum advance with my vacuum pump. I'll double check the timing as well.

Steve-o,  Here's the info on my Elky......  The engine is a 454 bore 30 over with forged 8.5 to 1 pistons, i want to turbocharge it at a later time. The crankshaft is a steel forged LS-7 that has been tuftrided and nitrided, custom ordered set of Carillo rods, a set of early closed chamber oval port heads that have larger 2.19 stainless valves and 1.88 stainless exhaust valves installed. The heads have many hours of porting and flowed on my friends flow bench. They look and perform real nice. It has a special profile cam with short duration with high lift ( for turbocharger's ). The rocker arms are stainless rollers, special valve springs with titanium retainers. The intake is an aluminum Edelbrock egr, and a air pump setup  ( for smog requirements ) which is no longer needed. I have a new intake with no egr setup that i'm going to install. The carb is a very special Brad Urban modified quadrajet . He had a shop out here in southern Calif ( Ontario )  before he died.   :'(   He was a genius.  The tranny is a built turbo 400 with a mild stall converter, huge universal joints on the drive shaft. The rear end is a ford nine inch out of a early ford ranchero ( the width worked out perfect to fit 10" wheels under the car) with durablue 33 spline axles and a factory ford racing posi unit.  That's the drive train.   Interior consists of a silver anniversary corvette tilt-telescopic streering column, a factory 1967 GTO Hurst His/Her shfiter, Porsche 911 bucket seats, and custom hand made dash plates for the VDO gauges. Oh, the car has a late model air conditioner compressor, the condensor is a small unit with it's own fan mounted in front of the right front wheel well with a aluminum duct housing. I also installed air bags in the front ( relocated the front shocks out side of the a arms ) and air bags in the rear with KYB shocks at all four corners.  I think that covers it all.
Here are a couple of pictures..........
